Anthony Edwards' 33-Point Performance Leads Timberwolves to Victory.
Anthony Edwards is our MVP of the day following his dominant performance in the Minnesota Timberwolves’ 135-119 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Thursday night.
Edwards exploded for 33 points, shooting 13-23 from the field, 5-9 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 2-2 from the free-throw line.
His all-around performance also included eight rebounds and six assists, but it was his scoring display in the fourth quarter that truly defined the game. Edwards’ 13 points in the final 12 minutes helped propel the Timberwolves to a 45-24 surge in the fourth, turning a five-point deficit into a decisive victory.
Minnesota, which trailed by 13 points earlier in the game, found its rhythm as Edwards led a game-changing 12-0 run midway through the fourth quarter.
The run, which gave the Timberwolves their first lead since the early minutes of the game, was capped by Julius Randle’s driving layup with 6:47 left, putting them up 107-106. From there, Minnesota never looked back, stretching its lead to 113-106 before finishing strong.
The Bulls had no answer for Edwards as he sank all five of his shots in the final frame. While the Timberwolves shot a blistering 70% in the fourth, the Bulls’ offense faltered, making just one 3-pointer during the period after shooting 36-65 (55.4%) through the first three quarters.
Despite strong efforts from Chicago’s Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan, who combined for 40 points, the Bulls’ offense collapsed when it mattered most.
Julius Randle contributed 22 points and 10 rebounds, Rudy Gobert added 21 points and nine boards, and Mike Conley chipped in with 14 points and 11 assists, supporting Edwards’ clutch performance. The Timberwolves now stand at 5-3, with their rally against Chicago being a statement win in a highly competitive Western Conference.
In his standout performance against the Chicago Bulls, Anthony Edwards recorded his 69th career 30-point game, tying Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis for 15th on the all-time list for players 23 or younger (via Basketball Reference’s StatHead).
At just 23 years old, Edwards is poised to climb higher on this exclusive list, with his next target being Bulls icon Michael Jordan, who notched 78 career 30-point games before his 24th birthday.
This milestone is not the only age-related achievement Edwards reached in Thursday’s win. With his 39th career game of at least 30 points, five assists, and five rebounds (including playoffs), Edwards surpassed Michael Jordan for the 6th most such games in NBA history by a player under 24. This further solidifies his place among the league’s elite young talents.
Edwards, often compared to Jordan due to his scoring ability and style of play, has made his own mark in the NBA. Despite his occasional controversial comments about the Bulls legend’s era, Edwards continues to back up his words with impressive performances, establishing himself as one of the brightest stars in the league.
