NBA Daily Recap, Feb. 6: Mavericks revenge on Celtics, Lakers sweep Warriors and more

The Minnesota Timberwolves’ star Anthony Edwards came up with a heroic performance as they took down the Rockets 127-114. Edwards, who finished with 49 points against the Bulls in the previous game, recorded second straight 40-point performance in back-to-back games.

Apart from him, the Lakers icon LeBron James once again proved the world what he is good at. Being the best. He scored 42 points as the Lakers took down the Warriors 120-112 and created a franchise record. The 21-time NBA All-Star also followed the footsteps of the great Michael Jordan to create a league record as well.

A total of 12 teams clashed against each other across six matches on Thursday, Feb. 6. Here, we go through the major highlights of all the matches.

Mavericks 127-120 Celtics

In the opening match of the night, the Dallas Mavericks got the better of the second-seeded Eastern Conference team Boston Celtics 127-120, and sought revenge of the past defeat. the last time both teams met, the Celtics handed a blowout 122-107 win to Dallas.

In Thursday night’s game, Klay Thompson led the Mavericks with 25 points, three rebounds and four assists while Spencer Dinwiddie finished with 22 points, two rebounds and two assists. Kyrie Irving added 19 points while Naji Marshall scored 20 points.

On the Celtics side, Jaylen Brown scored 25 points with five rebounds and two assists while Payton Pritchard had 21 points, six rebounds and six assists to add. Jayson Tatum and Kristaps Porzingis both finished with 17 points each.

Timberwolves 127-114 Rockets

In the second match-up of the night, the Minnesota Timberwolves registered a 127-114 win over the Houston Rockets. Anthony Edwards once again crossed the 40 point mark and finished with 41 points, seven rebounds and six assists. This was his second straight 40+ point performance as he recorded 49 points in the previous match against the Bulls. Jaylen Clark came up with 17 points, three rebounds and one assist. Mike Conley Jr. scored 16 points, three rebounds and five assists for the team.

On the flip side, Jalen Green scored 28 points, while adding six rebounds and five assists. Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore finished with 16 points each for the Rockets.

Nuggets 112-90 Magic

The Denver Nuggets continued their winning streak and registered their fifth straight victory in the back-to-back game. The Nuggets took down the Orlando Magic 112-90 in a lop-sided match. Michael Porter Jr. came up with 30 points, seven rebounds and one assist while Nikola Jokic came up with a triple double. He finished the night with 28 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists.

Paolo Banchero scored 18 points for the Magic with eight rebounds and four assists, while Franz Wagner had 14 points. Wendell Carter Jr. scored 19 points and four rebounds.

Trail Blazers 108-102 Kings

The Portland Trail Blazers recorded their sixth straight win as they edged past the Sacramento Kings 108-102. Anfernee Simons came up with 30 points while Shaedon Sharpe scored 24 points. Deandre Ayton had 18 points to contribute while Jerami Grant finished the night with 12 points for the Trail Blazers.

Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozgan scored 22 points each, while Malik Monk closely followed them with 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Kings.

Lakers 120-112 Warriors

The Lakers recorded their third win of the season over the Warriors by taking them down 120-112. LeBron James was once again the shining star for the side with his 42 points, 17 rebounds and eight assists. With this, he became the oldest player to score 40+ points, and the second player after Michael Jordan to score 40+ points at the age of 40 or over. Apart from James, Austin Reaves scored 23 points, three rebounds and four assists. Rui Hachimura and Jaxson Hayes finished with 11 points each.

Steph Curry once again topped the charts with 37 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Warriors. Buddy Hield and Moses Moody had 14 points each.

Pacers 119-112 Clippers

The Indiana Pacers bounced back from their 112-89 loss to the Trail Blazers and recorded a 119-112 win over the LA Clippers. Pascal Siakam scored 33 points while Bennedict Mathurin came up with 25 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Pacers. Tyrese Haliburton had 14 points, three rebounds and eight assists, whereas Thomas Bryant and Ben Sheppard scored 12 points apiece.

On the other hand, James Harden and Norman Powell finished with 22 points each, while Kawhi Leonard added 19 points and Ivica Zubac added 18 points for the Clippers.
