NBA Daily Recap, Feb 4: Joel Embiid’s triple-double comeback, Trail Blazers’ fifth straight win, and more

Here, we go through the highlights of all NBA games that took place on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

An action filled Tuesday saw fourteen NBA teams clashing against each other in seven exciting fixtures. The first game of the night saw Joel Embiid making a powerful comeback to help the 76ers record a close 118-116 win over the Mavericks.

It was a memorable night for Sr. James and Jr. James as the two helped the LA Lakers take town the Clippers 122-97. From Knicks’ sixth win in last seven games to the Cavaliers’ going down to the Celtics, let’s have a look at what happened across games in NBA on Feb. 4.

76ers 118-116 Mavericks

Tyrese Maxey led the Philadelphia 76ers to a 118-116 win over the Dallas Mavericks, and handed them their third straight defeat. Maxey scored 33 points along with four rebounds and 13 assists. Apart from him, Joel Embiid, who played his first game after a month-long off, recorded a triple double and finished with 29 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. 

Kyrie Irving led the scorecards with 34 points, four assists and nine rebounds in 42 minutes of gameplay, whereas Naji Marshal had 19 points to contribute, followed by Max Christie’s 15 points and Dante Exum’s 14.

In the next game, Dallas will be up against Boston on Thursday while Philadelphia will host Miami on Wednesday. 

Knicks 121-115 Raptors

The New York Knicks recorded their sixth win in the last seven games as they defeated the Toronto Raptors 121-115. Jalen Brunson came up with a match-leading performance of 28 points, one rebound and five assists to help New York record their 34th win of the season. 

Mikal Bridges and Precious Achiuwa each scored 17 points, while Josh Hart added 15 points as the Knicks recorded their eighth straight win over the Raptors. 

On the other hand, Scottie Barnes scored 23 points while Jamal Shead had a career-high score of 16 points for the Raptors. Notably, the Raptors were without RJ Barrett and also lost Jakob Poeltl in halftime. 

Next, Toronto will be against the Grizzlies while the Knicks will be in action on Saturday night against Boston. 

Celtics 112-105 Cavaliers

The Boston Celtics put an end to the Cleveland Cavaliers’ four-match winning streak by taking the toppers down 112-105. Donovan Mitchell scored 31 points while adding 10 rebounds and six assists. However, his performance went into vain as Jayson Tataum’s 22 points, combined with Derrick White’s 20 and Kristaps Porzingis’ 19 helped the Celtics outscore their rivals. 

In the next game, the Cavaliers will be up against the Pistons, while the Celtics will clash against the Mavericks. 

Nets 99-97 Rockets

Keon Johnson routed the Brooklyn Nets to a 99-97 win over the Houston Rockets with his 22 points, four rebounds and two assists. Nic Claxton finished with 14 points, four rebounds and two assists. 

The Rockets, who recorded their fourth straight loss, had Alperen Sengun scoring 24 points with 20 rebounds and four assists. Dillon Brooks and Reed Sheppard both came up with 16 points each for the Rockets. 

The Nets will clash against Washington in the next game while the Rockets lock horns with Minnesota.

Bulls 133-124 Heat

The Chicago Bulls recorded their third straight win as they defeated the Miami Heat 133-124. The game saw Matas Buzelis and Josh Giddey both finishing with 24 points. Coby White had 22 points followed by Ayo Dosunmus’ 21 points, two rebounds and nine assists.

On the other hand, Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo each scored 23 points for Miami. Nikola Jovic chipped in 20 points while Kel’el Ware added 17 points. 

In the next game, the Heat will be up against the 76ers while the Bulls will play against Minnesota.   

Trail Blazers 112-89 Pacers

Anfernee Simons scored 22 points with three rebounds and seven assists while Jerami Grant had 20 points to add as the Trail Blazers dismantled the Pacers 112-89. Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe both scored 17 points each to help Portland record their fifth straight win. 

Andrew Nembhard scored 17 points while Pascal Siakam added 16 points for the Pacers. T.J. McConnell scored 14 points with four rebounds and four assists for the Pacers. 

Both sides will be in action on Thursday as the Pacers will visit Clippers while the Blazers will host the Kings. 

Lakers 122-97 Clippers

In the last game of the night, the Western Conference fifth-seeded team, LA Lakers edged past the Los Angeles Clippers. LeBron James, once again was the star of the night with his 26 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. 

Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura scored 20 points each and helped the side finish their six-game trip with five wins despite losing Anthony Davis to injury even before the trade. The game also saw rookie Bronny James recording his first NBA 3-pointer after he stepped in to play during the last six games. For the Clippers, Norman Powell finished with 20 points while Derrick Jones Jr. added 17 points. 

In the next game, the Lakers will host the Warriors while the Clippers will host the Pacers on Thursday.
