NBA Commissioner addresses Luka Doncic trade during All-Star Media Day, urges Mavs fans to ‘believe in their organization’

Adam Silver urged fans to keep faith in the Dallas Mavericks.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has given a message to Dallas Mavericks fans, who are still angry about Luka Doncic’s move to the Los Angeles Lakers. Silver was speaking during his annual address at All-Star weekend on Saturday.

Adam Silver urged fans to keep faith in the Dallas Mavericks and feels that their decision to trade Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis was in their minds. He was also surprised like others after learning about the trade.

Adam Silver wants Mavericks fans to believe in their organization

“I can say one thing for sure: Whether or not history will ultimately judge this as a smart trade, they did what they thought was in the best interest of their organization,” Silver said.

“I have absolutely no knowledge or belief there were any ulterior motives, no doubt in my mind that the Dumont-Adelson families bought that team to keep it in Dallas. I have no doubt whatsoever that they’re committed to the long-term success of that franchise.”

It was one of the biggest NBA trades of all time and shocked everyone across the league. Dallas Mavericks moved on from Luka Doncic, who was out from the team due to injury sustained during Christmas Day. On the flip note, Anthony Davis’ departure from the Lakers was also surprising for fans.

Dallas Mavericks fans started protesting and social media was full of opinions on Luka Doncic. The 25-year-old superstar made his Lakers debut last week against the Utah Jazz and Anthony Davis got injured on his impressive debut for the Mavericks. Both players have moved on from their past organization but fans are still living in the same era.

“I’m empathetic,” Silver concluded. “I understand it. Time will tell whether it was a smart trade. But they should believe in their organization.”

Victor Wembanyama also adds his opinion on Mavericks fans and their emotions

San Antonio Spurs star, Victor Wembanyama also expressed his thoughts on Mavericks fans and Luka Doncic trade. “What really strikes me is how the Mavs’ fans are hurting, how they feel,” Wembanyama said Saturday.

“It’s really something that I think was a really strong emotion. But otherwise, I think the Mavs are still contenders. The Lakers are contenders. It’s very competitive. They traded for very good players. … But two weeks after, it’s still the craziest trade I’ve ever seen.”

Both Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis are not part of the NBA All-Star Weekend. Doncic was not selected for the All-Star event and Davis was ruled out from the All-Star event due to a groin injury sustained during his Mavericks debut last week.
