Napheesa Collier’s MVP-caliber WNBA season hits a speed bump after suffering an injury mid-game.
The Minnesota Lynx were dealt a huge blow after Napheesa Collier walked off to the locker room in the middle of the game on Saturday. She’s been the face of the Lynx roster, delivering consistent MVP-level performances all season long.
Collier went down in the third quarter after rolling her ankle. It happened during a fastbreak play while Natisha Hiedeman was charging toward the basket. Just behind, Collier stepped on Alanna Smith’s foot and rolled her ankle. She instantly shouted in pain and went down.
Both Aces and Lynx players surrounded her quickly, shielding her from cameras with team towels. Lynx’s captain tried to get up and walk but she couldn’t. She had to be helped off with assistant coach’s support.

Collier will undergo multiple scans and imaging tests to determine the full extent of her injury. Minnesota Lynx’s head coach suggested that it was too early to determine the severity of the injury. With further tests, an appropriate outcome can be established.
Though the foot injury looks serious with a 90° twist, Collier was also lucky enough to not hurt her knee, which could have been more devastating. A knee injury would have possibly taken her out for months’.
The 28-year-old has been consistent with her performances this season averaging 23.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. She’s now the MVP frontrunner as Caitlin Clark has missed nearly half the season due to lingering injuries.
Napheesa Collier was the MVP for the WNBA All-star game and also the Unrivalled season. In Saturday’s blowout win against the Las Vegas Aces, she scored 18 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds with just 26 minutes of action.
