Osaka is a two-time US Open winner.
Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka returns to Canadian soil for the highly anticipated 2025 National Bank Open in Montreal. She will take on home favourite Ariana Arseneault in the Round of 128 at the WTA-1000 event on Monday. The winner of this match is set to take on Liudmila Samsonova in the Round of 64. Here’s all you need to know about the match preview, our predictions, and BetMGM’s betting odds for this contest.
Osaka and Arseneault will be facing each other for the first time on Monday. This Centre Court clash will be a battle of power and grit. While the Japanese sensation has the superior game style and experience, she will have to overcome the Canadian crowd as well as Arseneault’s relentless ball striking. The 23-year-old has lost just one match this year after winning the opening set. A former University of Georgia and Auburn University tennis player, Arseneault defeated Destanee Aiava to enter the main draw.

While Osaka has been serving very well this year, the former World No. 1 has been let down by her poor 29% return game success rate. Her only title this year was at the WTA-125 in Saint-Malo. Currently on a 21-11 run in 2025, Osaka will be determined to turn her season around. She recently announced her split with coach Patrick Mouratoglou, and showed encouraging signs at Wimbledon and the Citi DC Open. Currently ranked No. 49 in the world, the 27-year-old will take on a former runner-up if she wins on Monday.
Merci Patrick ❤️ it was such a great experience learning from you. Wishing you nothing but the best. You are one of the coolest people l've ever met and I'm sure I'll see you around 🙏🏾 pic.twitter.com/oLInWTyeYw

When it comes to hard courts, there are very few players who can outhit Osaka. The Japanese powerhouse has a massive first serve, which she follows up with crouched groundstrokes that stay low and flat. One of the tactics that Arseneault can adopt is to bring Osaka to the net whenever possible. This will zap some energy out of the two-time US Open champ, and also force her to play volleys and defensive retrievals. Nonetheless, this seems to be one way traffic on paper.
Prediction: Naomi Osaka in straight sets.
Osaka is a massive betting favourite for this Round of 128 encounter vs underdog Arseneault. According to the pre-match probability on the money line, Osaka stands a 88% chance of advancing to the second round. Here are all the match-specific odds to make note of (as per BetMGM):
