Naomi Osaka vs. Anastasija Sevastova Head-to-Head, Prediction and Betting Odds for WTA National Bank Open 2025 Round of 16

Winner to face Anisimova or Svitolina in the QFs.

Rekindling her excellence on tour at the 2025 National Bank Open in Montreal, former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka faces Anastasija Sevastova in the Round of 16 on Sunday. While the Japanese starlet took out two seeded players in her last two matches, Sevastova defeated two-time defending champion Pegula in the Round of 32. We look to dissect the match-up between these rivals with the help of BetMGM today.

World No. 49 Naomi Osaka is yet to win a title this year. Ever since making her return after giving birth, the 27-year-old has been gradually improving her level. She displayed some phenomenal tennis to capture the WTA-125 trophy at Saint-Malo in May. Osaka boasts a 24-11 record this year, including a 78% success rate on this surface. The four-time Grand Slam champion earned hard fought victories over Arseneault, Samsonova and Ostapenko en route to the pre-quarterfinals.

At 37 years of age, Anastasija Sevastova continues to prove her critics wrong. The Latvian knocked 2023 and 2024 Canadian Open champion Jessica Pegula out of the competition in three sets on Friday. Prior to this event, Sevastova had managed to amass just five wins on tour this year. Despite being a former US Open semifinalist, she enters this match as a minnow, and will be looking to get glorious redemption for her countrywoman Ostapenko.

Naomi Osaka vs Anastasija Sevastova Head to Head Record

Naomi Osaka leads the head-to-head against Sevastova by 3-2, ahead of the 2025 Canadian Open. The last time they faced one another was over half a decade ago at the Australian Open.

Osaka and Sevastova are yet to play a match outside hard courts, and Sunday’s battle will be no different. Up until 2018, it was the Latvian who had the edge in the rivalry – with two straight sets wins over Osaka. However, the two-time US Open winner bounced back with consecutive successes against her opponent on Australian soil.

Naomi Osaka vs Anastasija Sevastova WTA National Bank Open 2025 Prediction

Sevastova’s game revolves a lot around her patience levels. She likes to make her opponents play an extra ball, and waits for an opportunity to pounce on their mistakes. While Osaka likes to be in control of the rallies, she has struggled to dictate the pace on some occasions. There is no doubt that the Japanese sensation will be made to come up to the net on some occasions against the Latvian. Provided she can maintain a high success rate in front of the baseline, she is likely to progress.

Prediction: Naomi Osaka in straight sets.
