Moyuka Uchijima vs. Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head Record, Preview and Prediction for WTA Madrid Open 2025 Round of 16

Sankalp Harikrishnan

Uchijima is searching for her WTA singles title.

After notching up unbelievable victories over the likes of World No. 3 Jessica Pegula and three-time Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur this week, all eyes will be on Moyuka Uchijima. The Japanese sensation takes on Russian powerhouse Ekaterina Alexandrova for a spot in the 2025 Mutua Madrid Open quarterfinals on manic Monday. Can the 23-year-old continue her rich vein of form?

World No. 56 Uchijima entered Madrid on the back of a confidence boosting outing in Rouen. Although she was outlasted by Olga Danilovic, the No. 5 seed displayed a high level of tennis. In 2025 alone, she has already beaten the likes of Pegula, Jelena Ostapenko and Emma Raducanu. Uchijima will look to improve on her career-best ranking of No. 51 very soon.

On the other hand, Alexandrova is a consistent threat on the WTA Tour. She is among the most fierce strikers of the tennis ball, and her career-high ranking of No. 15 justified it. The 30-year-old beat No. 14 seed Daria Kasatkina of Australia en route to the Round of 16. Prior to the event at the Spanish capital, Alexandrova reached two consecutive clay court semifinals in Charleston and Stuttgart.

Moyuka Uchijima vs Ekaterina Alexandrova Madrid Open 2025 Prediction

Uchijima was great at adapting to the hot conditions and taking the ball early against Pegula. Consequently, the American struggled to generate her own pace, and succumbed to the pressure of being too defensive and complacent. However, Alexandrova is an attack-minded player who is a semifinalist at this tournament from 2022. Uchijima’s game style could potentially play into the hands of the Russian.

Prediction: Ekaterina Alexandrova in three sets.
