The Midfielder Misses Portugal Trip For Personal Reasons.
Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has not joined his team for their pre-season training camp in Portugal. This has come in the middle of rumours about his future at the club. However, sources close to the club insist the absence is due to personal reasons and not linked to the ongoing transfer talks.
Gibbs-White has been at the center of Tottenham Hotspur’s interest this summer. He was expected to travel with Forest on Monday but stayed behind. According to The Telegraph’s John Percy, the 25-year-old is supporting his wife, Britney De Villiers, through a high-risk pregnancy.

De Villiers recently shared on Instagram: “To all the mamas who are dealing with or have dealt with a high-risk pregnancy, my heart really goes out to you and I want you to know that you’re not alone. This has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever dealt with and I just don’t really remember a time I wasn’t overwhelmed with stress.”
Gibbs-White’s absence comes amid a tense standoff between Forest and Spurs. Tottenham reportedly triggered his £60 million release clause earlier this month. And they were even preparing for a medical. However, Forest accused Spurs of making an “illegal approach”.

They stated that Spurs were contacting the player directly before opening talks with the club. The Premier League side is now considering legal action against Tottenham for allegedly breaching confidentiality clauses in Gibbs-White’s contract.
Despite the uncertainty, Gibbs-White remains professional. He returned to pre-season training last week. He even featured in Forest’s 0-0 friendly draw against Chesterfield, playing the first half. Team-mate Ola Aina praised him, telling Sky Sports:
“Morgan is a professional. I don’t really know the ins and outs of that, but he was here today, he was playing, training with us, staying fit as normal.”

Nottingham Forest will spend over a week in Portugal, with friendlies scheduled against Fulham and Estoril Praia. Gibbs-White is expected to rejoin the squad later this week. However, it remains unclear if he will be available for their upcoming clash against Fulham.
Spurs continue to monitor the situation. However, Forest have made it clear in letters to both Spurs and Gibbs-White’s agent that they reserve the right to pursue legal action if necessary. Tensions are high but it doesn’t seem that those things are at play as family priorities come ahead for Gibbs-white at this point of time.
