Monday Night Football Week 3 Result – Lions Back on Track with Another Dominant Win Over the Ravens

What an end to week 3 it was as the 1-1 Detroit Lions went on the road to play the 1-1 Baltimore Ravens on an intense Monday Night Football (MNF) showdown. The game promised on so many levels even before kickoff, and boy did it deliver. Here is the Monday Night Football week 3 result between the Lions and the Ravens.

Despite the matchup between two of the league’s dominant teams producing 68 total points, there were still moments of defensive brilliance, especially from the Lions, who got to Lamar Jackson for a total of 7 sacks.

Close First Half Ends with the Scores Level

It was the Lions who received the opening kickoff and showed their aggression from the first drive itself. A couple of deep balls from Jared Goff to Jameson Williams and a key 4th and 3 conversion were followed by a Jahmyr Gibbs score, putting the Lions up 7-0.

That lead would last only for a few minutes as the Ravens came back on their first drive of the game through Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry, the latter found a big hole and took it 28 yards to the endzone as the game settled at 7-7.

Following back-and-forth 3-and-outs for both teams, Detroit once again took control. A long 10+ minute drive of 98 yards culminated with running back David Montgomery’s touchdown run. In the next drive of the game, the Ravens very nearly tied the match, but went for it on fourth and goal only to turn the ball over on downs as Jackson got strip-sacked.

Baltimore’s defense finally came up big and caused a quick 3-and-out to get the ball back. Making no mistakes this time, Jackson found Rashod Bateman in the endzone to tie the game at 14 a-piece following a pass interference penalty on cornerback Terrion Arnold.

Lions Pull Away in the Fourth Quarter

The third quarter again saw two touchdowns, one from each team, as the deadlock between them just couldn’t be broken. Baltimore would strike first through a Lamar Jackson pass to Mark Andrews, going up 21-14 before the Lions came roaring back through Jared Goff’s touchdown pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown.

The Lions’ defense then started to amp up the pressure on Baltimore, while the offense continued to deliver. Backed up deep inside their own 5-yard line, David Montgomery put together a couple of nice runs, including a huge 72-yard run that led to yet another touchdown with the Lions running a trick play.

Down 24-28, the Ravens were looking to take the lead when Aidan Hutchinson forced a Derrick Henry fumble, which was recovered by the Lions.

As the Lions’ defense got stronger, the Ravens’ defense started to crumble. Detroit would go up 38-24 through another long run by Montgomery, which all but sealed the game. Baltimore struck back to make it 38-30 after failing to convert on the 2-point conversion, but couldn’t recover the ensuing onside kick, bringing an end to the game.

Ravens vs Bills Game Stats

For the Lions, Jared Gogg had 202 passing yards and one touchdown, finishing with 20 completions from 28 attempts. Running back David Montgomery had the game of his life with 151 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns, while Jahmyr Gibbs also added 67 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground.

Amon-Ra St. Brown was the best of the receivers with 77 receiving yards and a touchdown. Defensively, the Lions had 7 sacks with defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad getting 2.5 of those.

On the Ravens’ side, Lamar Jackson had 288 passing yards with 3 touchdowns, but Derrick Henry was held to just 50 rushing yards. Henry’s crucial fourth-quarter fumble was also his third one from three games this season, while he had only 3 fumbles in the entire 2024 season.

Tight end Mark Andrews was the best pass-catching option, finishing the game with 6 catches for 91 yards, including 2 touchdowns.

This loss for Baltimore now means that they have fallen to 1-2 on the season, and even though they have played some amazing football, they have faltered at the hands of the league’s other top teams, such as the Bills and Lions. Now they head over to Kansas City for a week 4 matchup against the 1-2 Chiefs.

As for Detroit, they got off to a slow start in the season opener against the Packers, but the two games since then have been an offensive juggernaut. 52 points against the Bears and 38 against the Ravens prove they are back to their best. Their next game will be against the Cleveland Browns.
