MLB Opening Day 2025 Results – Dodgers Continue Rolling as Ohtani Homers, Soto Whiffs in Human Moment, Yankees Flirt With Disaster and More

Baseball is back! The 2025 season opened with plenty of action, from Shohei Ohtani’s fireworks in Los Angeles to Juan Soto’s frustrating finish in New York. The Yankees survived late drama, the Dodgers handled business, and the Mets fell short despite a late push. Here’s how Opening Day unfolded:

Yankees 4, Brewers 2 (Yankee Stadium)
The Yankees kicked off their season with a win, though it wasn’t without a few tense moments. Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells each hit solo homers to put the Yankees ahead, while closer Devin Williams, facing his former team, navigated a tricky ninth inning to secure his first save in pinstripes. Bearded Carlos Rodon too, had a great outing.

Dodgers 5, Tigers 4 (Dodger Stadium)
Blake Snell’s Dodgers debut ended in a win, as Los Angeles edged past Detroit. Teoscar Hernández launched a three-run homer, while Ohtani continued his torrid start to the season with his second home run and a pair of runs scored. Tommy Edman also went deep, helping the Dodgers to a 5-4 victory in their home opener.

Astros 3, Mets 1 (Daikin Park)
Framber Valdez dominated with seven scoreless innings, but it was Josh Hader who stole the spotlight, notching his 200th career save in dramatic fashion. The Mets threatened in the ninth, loading the bases with no outs, but Hader struck out rookie Hayden Senger in his first major league at-bat before Francisco Lindor’s sacrifice fly cut the deficit to 3-1.

With the tying run on first, Juan Soto had a chance to play hero but swung through a full-count slider well outside the zone, sealing the Astros’ win.

Phillies 7, Nationals 3 (Nationals Park)
A tense extra-inning battle saw the Phillies pull away late. Alec Bohm’s two-run double in the 10th broke the deadlock, and J.T. Realmuto followed with a two-run triple to put the game out of reach. Zack Wheeler pitched six strong innings for Philadelphia, while MacKenzie Gore dazzled for Washington, striking out a career-high 13 over six shutout frames. Ex-Nationals Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber each homered to help the Phillies rally.

Orioles 12, Blue Jays 2 (Rogers Centre)
Tyler O’Neill made history, homering in his sixth straight Opening Day to extend his MLB record. The Orioles put on a power display, setting a franchise record with six Opening Day home runs.

Adley Rutschman and Cedric Mullins each went deep twice, while Jordan Westburg also added to the onslaught in Baltimore’s commanding win.

Red Sox 5, Rangers 2 (Globe Life Field)
Wilyer Abreu was the star of the show, belting two home runs, including a go-ahead three-run shot in the ninth. He was involved in every run Boston scored, singling and scoring earlier in the game before sealing the win with his late-game heroics. Aroldis Chapman worked a scoreless eighth in his Red Sox debut, while Justin Slaten closed things out with a perfect ninth.

Padres 7, Braves 4 (Petco Park)
San Diego stormed back with a four-run seventh inning, sparked by pinch-hitter Gavin Sheets’ game-tying homer. Jackson Merrill led the charge with four RBIs, while Fernando Tatís Jr. collected three hits. For Atlanta, Ozzie Albies had a two-run homer and Austin Riley also went deep. Last year’s Cy Young winner, Chris Sale, struck out seven over five innings but couldn’t secure the win.

Padres starter Michael King struggled, failing to get out of the third inning after allowing three runs.
