Minnesota’s Naz Reid to reportedly opt out of his contract and set to hit free agency in offseason

Minnesota Timberwolves star, Naz Reid is looking to opt out of his contract in the NBA offseason and the backup center is set to enter free agency, Jake Fischer reported via The Stein Line. As per updates, there is no rift between the two parties but they have some things to clear up this postseason.

Naz Reid has been a vital player for the Timberwolves and the the 2024 Sixth Man of the Year led Minnesota to a finest upset against the West-leaders, the Oklahoma City Thunder. He tallied 22 points, 11 rebounds and three assists to lead a win in overtime.

“His scoring, rebounding and assists have all increased since last season’s 6MOY success and Reid continues to shoot better than 40% from 3-point range. The floor spacing he provides, both when playing alongside [Rudy] Gobert or [Julius] Randle and when operating as the lone big man for Wolves coach Chris Finch, is a key element of Minnesota’s offense,” Jake Fischer wrote.

Reid’s current process will push other teams to acquire him at the end of the season. Brooklyn Nets are the frontrunners as they have more cap space this offseason. The backup center can get interest from the Phoenix Suns and it can help Minnesota, who were targeting Kevin Durant. Reid’s inclusion with Bol Bol and Ryan Dunn can make Phoenix solid unit for next season.

Reid is averaging 14.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in the regular season while shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 40.4 percent from 3. The 25-year-old has been a pivotal for the Wolves in last 10 games, averaging 20.1 points, 8.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
