On Sunday evening, Jannik Sinner was crowned the Prince of Turin yet again, as he took down arch rival Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(4) 7-5 to win the Nitto ATP Finals 2025. The win resulted in the World No. 2 reducing the deficit in their head-to-head to 6-10. After the encounter, another statistic emerged to indicate how fierce the rivalry between the two next-gen giants of men’s tennis has been.

It has been a 2025 season dominated by Alcaraz and Sinner, who ended up finishing as No. 1 and No. 2 in the world. For the second year in a row, they split the four majors between themselves. Moreover, Sinner’s ruthlessness on indoor hard courts was on full display on Sunday – the 24-year-old now has an unbeaten streak of 31 matches on the surface.

With a full house watching on at the Inalpi Arena, Alcaraz and Sinner played lights out tennis from the opening rally. The encounter was filled with brutal baseline exchanges, with depth and power being the name of the game. The Spanish sensation dug his own grave by squandering a set point in the opener, and failed to take advantage when he pushed forward to the net. In the tiebreaker, the four-time Grand Slam winning home favorite stayed calm to close out the first set.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner Have Won the Same Number of Points in Their Rivalry

There was a shift in momentum early in the second set, as Alcaraz broke in the very first game. It was a momentary lapse in concentration from Sinner, and his opponent shrugged off a hamstring issue to pounce. The 22-year-old top seed won a tour-leading eight championships in 2025 – which meant that Sinner couldn’t afford to give him any openings to get back into the match. But after breaking back and taking the set deep, Sinner closed out the battle in 2 hours and 15 minutes with another break.

Sinner is the third man after McEnroe and Becker to lift multiple Nitto ATP Finals trophies on home soil. He is 10-0 in this competition across the past two years, and didn’t drop a single set throughout the triumphant 2025 edition. “It was a very close match,” he said. “I saved a set point in the first set and I am extremely happy with how I handled the situation. It means the world to me.”

The Sincaraz rivalry is currently as tight as it can get. According to an updated statistic, the duo has played 3,302 points in total. Both of them have won exactly the same number of points – 1,651 each. After the sensational US Open final where Alcaraz defeated Sinner, the Spaniard led by six points. However, the Italian powerhouse killed the gap by winning 78 points in comparison with Alcaraz’s 72 points on Sunday.
