Mike McCarthy Will No Longer Be the Dallas Cowboys Head Coach in 2025

The NFL coaching carousel get a new update !

Mike McCarthy, head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, will not extend his contract with the Texas franchise.

The suspense is over for Mike McCarthy and the Dallas Cowboys. For weeks, rumors had been circulating in Texas about whether the team’s current head coach would remain in place for the upcoming season following a disappointing 2024 campaign that ended with a 7-10 record.

The answer is now clear: Mike McCarthy will no longer be the Cowboys’ head coach in 2025, as he failed to reach an agreement on a contract extension with the team.

A longtime head coach of the Green Bay Packers, McCarthy joined the Dallas Cowboys before the 2020 NFL season. After a challenging adjustment period, he led the Cowboys to three consecutive 12-win regular seasons. However, these successful seasons were marred by disappointing playoff exits, often attributed to quarterback Dak Prescott or McCarthy himself.

This marks the end of a five-year tenure between the coach and the Texas franchise. Dallas now faces the challenge of finding a head coach capable of managing the immense pressure surrounding the team and meeting the high expectations of fans, especially after granting a lucrative contract to Dak Prescott during the previous offseason.

As for Mike McCarthy, several teams without head coaches are expected to express interest in his services in the coming days, including the New Orleans Saints and the Chicago Bears.
