Miami Heat’s Tyler Herro Expected to Seek $42 Million Per Year in Contract Extension

Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro is expected to demand a contract worth $42 million annually. Herro has been a key player for the Heat and has established himself as a franchise player alongside Bam Adebayo. Having finished the recent past season with a career-high average of 23.9 points and 5.5 assists per game, Herro has significantly risen to stardom. Considering this, there are reports by Heat insider Greg Sylvander that he would seek a contract worth $40-$42 million annually.

Using another NBA player as the baseline, the 25-year-old posted, “With ‘never been an All-Star & probably won’t ever be an All-Star,’ Mikal Bridges getting 4 years, $150 million, you can bet Tyler Herro, if he has back-to-bahitk seasons at heightened efficiency, is going to ask for well north of that salary. I expect he will want $41-$42 million per year at least.” Ever since Jimmy Butler moved to the Golden State Warriors, Herro embraced a more prominent role and emerged as the first option for scoring.

Would $42 Million Contract Be Undervalued for Tyler Herro?

As mentioned, Herro stepped into a prominent role when the Warriors signed Jimmy Butler. He was shooting 47.2% from the field and 37.5% from beyond the arc and recorded a breakthrough season. The performance also earned him his first All-Star appearance. It can be said that Herro has the potential to emerge as the Heat’s reliable scorer. Considering how he has emerged as a reliable name, $42 might not be an undervalued sum for Herro.

However, this is a big-picture decision that will play a key role in dictating the future of the franchise. Before signing him and committing such a huge sum, the Heat must consider the best interest of the team.
