Who will prevail in this battle between two youngsters?
With the last WTA 1000 event on clay taking place in Rome at the 2025 Italian Open, we have a first-round matchup between Australian Maya Joint and the British Emma Raducanu. It will be an interesting round of 128 clash between two youngsters on the WTA tour.
Joint, who just announced her decision to turn professional at the end of last year in December is still getting accustomed to tennis at this level. Having said that, she has had a few decent results go her way this year, but for the most part, it has been more of a learning experience.
Raducanu, on the other hand, has much more experience at this level of the game, having turned pro in 2018. However, her progress has been marred by injuries, limiting her from continued success. Earlier this year, she made her first quarterfinal at a WTA 1000 tournament at the Miami Open.
Maya Joint and Emma Raducanu have never played against each other, thus today’s meeting will be the first ever.
As mentioned previously, Joint is relatively new to the scene, having recently turned professional. She is currently at her career-best in terms of ranking at the number 78 spot. As for Raducanu, she is currently ranked number 49 in the world, but was ranked as high as number 10 in 2022. The Brit has only one title to her name, but it is none other than the US Open.
Maya Joint | Category | Emma Raducanu |
78 | Ranking | 49 |
99-52 | Career W-L | 127-70 |
23-12 | YTD W-L | 8-8 |
0 | Career Titles | 1 |
0 | Grand Slams | 1 |
0 | YTD Titles | 1 |
It is difficult to see Raducanu lose this match with all the experience on her side. Her gameplay variety should be able to help her come through against the young teenager.
Match Prediction: Raducanu in straight sets
Maya Joint: 13/8
Emma Raducanu: 12/25

I started out in the sports media field because of two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis as well as my passion for writing. I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unites and entertains like nothing else!
