All-star affair at the German capital in Round-1.
After an underwhelming outing at the 2025 HSBC Championships at Queen’s Club in London, World No. 9 Emma Navarro makes a pit stop in Germany for the Berlin Tennis Open. She will face Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, who is set to start her grass court campaign on Monday. Who will emerge victorious in this Round of 32 battle on Steffi Graf Stadion at the German capital?
Both Navarro and Kostyuk are attempting to better their 2025 statistics in Berlin – the American has an 18/14 record so far, and her 22-year-old counterpart is currently 17/12. Navarro won her solitary singles title at the Merida Open, where she raced to the trophy without dropping a set. She also reached the quarterfinal stage at the Australian Open, but dropped out in Round-1 at the recently concluded Roland Garros.

Similarly, Kostyuk was also ousted in the opening encounter of her French Open journey. The World No. 26 is yet to win a title this year, and has four opening round losses in 2025. However, she has capitalised on the WTA-1000 tournaments – reaching the last eight stage in Doha and Madrid, and the Round of 16 at the other events. She will fancy her chances at picking up a maiden career victory over her 24-year-old opponent on Monday.
Emma Navarro leads the head to head against Marta Kostyuk by 2-0. Both previous meetings took place in 2024.
In the first duel, the American edged out a thrilling straight sets encounter against Kostyuk. Seeded No. 8, Navarro produced her best tennis when it mattered most in Toronto. The return fixture took place at the US Open, where Navarro earned a three set victory en route to a widely acclaimed semifinal showing in New York.

Although she has an upper hand in this rivalry, Emma Navarro’s recent form has been concerning. She failed to find much rhythm in her previous tournament at Queen’s Club. Kostyuk is well equipped when it comes to serving well and coming out on top in flat baseline exchanges. Only a flawless execution of variety and deception can take the American over the line.
Main draw starts tomorrow – and the lineup is 🔥🔥🔥 @evalys_ takes on @paulabadosa, and @marta_kostyuk faces Emma #Navarro – not bad for day one, right?
