Marcus Rashford Set for Unwanted Man United Return After Aston Villa Loan Ends

Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park, scoring four goals before injury ended his campaign early.

Marcus Rashford is preparing for an awkward return to Manchester United after Aston Villa confirmed that they will not sign the England forward on a permanent deal. Villa had the option to secure Rashford’s services for £40 million following his loan spell but have opted against exercising the clause, with the forward among five players leaving the club.

The decision leaves Rashford in limbo as no clubs have come close to matching United’s valuation for the England forward. Also, there hasn’t been any serious interest in a loan deal for the 27-year old. As a result, the ongoing situation has left him facing an unwelcome reunion with United boss Ruben Amorim.

Relations between Rashford and Amorim were strained last season, with the United manager dropping the striker from the squad for December’s derby win over Manchester City. After that match, Rashford was quickly loaned out.

Rahford’s Impressive Spell at Villa

Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park, scoring four goals before injury ended his campaign early. During his short stay at Villa Park, the attacker became an important figure in Unai Emery’s side, contributing four goals and six assists. Despite his impressive performances, Villa chose not to make Rashford’s loan move permanent this summer.

Rashford now looks set to return to Carrington unless a late transfer solution can be found. United’s pre-season training is set to begin on Monday with a phased return for the squad. This means that Rashford may not rejoin immediately. But if no transfer materialises, he will have no choice but to report back despite not being part of Amorim’s future plans.

In addition to Rashford, Marco Asensio and Axel Disasi will return to PSG and Chelsea respectively following their Villa loan spells. Villa also confirmed the departures of goalkeeper Robin Olsen and defender Kourtney Hause as free agents following the expiration of their contracts.
