Marcus Rashford Injury Update – Relief for Barcelona As Rashford Escapes Serious Injury in Sevilla Clash

Abhinav Goel

Barcelona endured a night to forget at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Sunday. The Catalan giants suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Sevilla in La Liga. Notably, it was their heaviest loss to the Andalusian side since 1951. Marcus Rashford had been one of the few positives for Barcelona in an otherwise disastrous evening, scoring their only goal of the match in first-half stoppage time.

Rashford’s precise left-footed volley from Pedri’s assist gave the visitors temporary hope after falling two goals behind. However, Sevilla’s relentless attack eventually overwhelmed Hansi Flick’s side. Late goals from Jose Angel Carmona and Akor Adams sealed a historic win for Sevilla and condemned Barca to their first league defeat of the season.

The reigning Spanish champions were chasing a win to reclaim top spot from Real Madrid. But they were outplayed and outworked across the pitch by Sevilla. It concluded a difficult week for Barca that had already seen them fall to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Amid the frustration, the sight of Marcus Rashford in visible discomfort late in the match sparked even greater concern among fans. However, those fears have since been eased by encouraging news from the medical team.

Marcus Rashford Knock vs Sevilla ‘Not Serious’

Marcus Rashford’s injury was sustained in the closing stages of the game against Sevilla. The English forward appeared to clutch his foot in pain and ended the match seated on the pitch, receiving treatment from Barcelona’s medical staff. According to Diario Sport, the injury is not being considered serious by Barcelona medical staff.

Despite initial worries of a potential long-term setback, early examinations suggest it was a minor knock rather than a major muscle or ligament issue. The 26-year-old is expected to undergo further assessment over the coming days, but all indications point toward a brief recovery period rather than an extended absence.

Marcus Rashford has been one of the most in-form players in Europe this campaign,. He has contributed four goals and four assists in his last seven appearances across all competitions. His pace, directness and link-up play with Pedri and Lewandowski have made him a vital component of Flick’s tactical setup. Losing Rashford, even for a short spell, would have been a significant blow given Barcelona’s growing injury list. Notably, Ter Stegen, Gavi, Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, and Fermin Lopez are all on the sidelines currently.

While the defeat leaves Barcelona trailing Real Madrid by two points, the news surrounding Rashford provides a rare silver lining. His swift recovery will be crucial as the Blaugrana look to regroup during the international break and reignite their push for La Liga glory.
