Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi has informed the club that he will not be signing a new contract and intends to leave next year. Palace head coach Oliver Glasner confirmed about the development on Friday. The England international’s current deal expires on June 30, 2026. As a result, Marc Guehi will be able to walk away on a free transfer unless Palace decide to cash in during the January window.
Marc Guehi is now eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from January 1, 2026. The development could pave the way for a big transfer scrambles with the Palace skipper already on the radar of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Manchester City. Liverpool came close to signing the defender on Deadline Day earlier this year after agreeing a £35 million deal.
However, Palace chairman Steve Parish pulled the plug just hours before the transfer window closed as the Eagles were unable to secure a suitable replacement in time. “I think Marc has already told us that he doesn’t sign a new contract, so he will leave next year,” Glasner said. “The club wanted him to stay — they offered him a new deal — but he said, ‘No, I want to make something different.’ That’s normal in football. Now we just have to handle this situation and decide what’s best for the next step.”

With Giovanni Leoni sidelined for the season through injury, Liverpool could return with another bid in January. However, Palace are unlikely to sanction a mid-season sale unless they receive a substantial offer. For now, the club will face the challenge of keeping their defensive leader motivated for the remainder of the campaign. Meanwhile, European giants will start preparing their offers for one of the Premier League’s most sought-after free agents.
