Manchester United Stunned by ASEAN All-Stars in Malaysia Tour Opener: Match Highlights, Fan Reactions, and More

Match Highlights, Fan Reactions, and Insights into Manchester United’s Shocking Loss

Manchester United in their opener of the Malaysia Tour suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat against the ASEAN All-Stars. After a goalless first half, ASEAN All-Stars’ Maung Maung Lwin scored in the 71st minute of the game.

Despite the 65% possession in the game, Ruben Amorim and his team failed to break the All-Star deadlock. Manchester United started with their regular striker Rasmus Hojlund and Kobe Mainoo upfront. Failing to score, the attacking front had 11 attempted shots in the game.

Fan Reactions: Frustration Mounts Among Manchester United Supporters

Fans on social media had a furious reaction to the opener in Malaysia. Being worried about the chemistry between the team, many raised questions about Amorim’s tactics.

As some would argue the absence of Bruno Fernandes, the reliability of one player could be seen in the friendly game. A fan pointed out the lack of synergy at Manchester United as she posted on X: “This shows me that both the players and this manager have no chemistry. I don’t trust this partnership going into next season.”

Having an angry reaction after the Europa League defeat makes it tougher than it is for Amorim. Fans in their filterless version had quite the critics for the Portuguese manager.

There have also been serious talks about replacing the current centre-forward Hojlund. Given his lack of consistency and injury struggles, the Dane has failed to win the trust around Old Trafford.

Manchester United will face Hong Kong next on May 30, 2025, in the soccer club-friendly game. It will be their last contest before the next season as Amorim aims to change things around. Following the defeat in Malaysia, United will be under pressure to make a comeback on their Asian tour.

Amorim is also aiming to be active in the transfer window as changes around the midfield are already in order. With some attacking prowess in demand, Amorim could also go on a hunt for a striker this summer.
