With six games without a win in the Premier league, United have slipped to 15th position in the points table.
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has voiced concerns over his squad’s ability to compete on both domestic and European fronts next season. The Portugese manager said that his team is “not ready” to handle the dual demands of the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
United’s 4-3 defeat to Brentford on Sunday served as another painful reminder of their disappointing domestic campaign. The defeat marked their 16th loss in the Premier League this season, which is the most league defeats they’ve suffered in a single campaign since the 1989–90 season. With six games without a win in the Premier league, United have slipped to 15th position in the points table.

However, United have been far better in the Europa League, which is their last hope of securing a spot in next season’s Champions League. The Red Devils are just one step away from the Europa League final as they hold a commanding 3-0 lead over Athletic Bilbao ahead of the second leg of their semi-final at Old Trafford on Thursday.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Sunday’s defeat at Brentford, Amorim said,
“We are not ready to play in the Premier League, be competitive, and to be in the Champions League,”
“We know that, but we need to win, and we need to fight to win this competition [Europa League], to give something to our fans, and to go to the Champions League.
“Then we will have time to prepare the team to cope with those two competitions. So, it is a dilemma, but we want to win, of course.”

Ruben Amorim's frank assessment of Man Utd's 4-3 loss to Brentford, their 16th defeat of the season
Ruben Amorim arrived at Old Trafford in November with high expectations, but his first season in charge has been a mixed bag. With a potential Europa League final against either Tottenham Hotspur or Bodo/Glimt on the horizon, United still have a chance to salvage their season. However, Amorim’s comments suggest that even with success in the Europa League, a major summer rebuild may be needed if the Red Devils are to reassert themselves among Europe’s elite.
