Guardiola Criticizes Tight Turnaround as Manchester City Face Bournemouth in Crucial Premier League Clash Post-FA Cup Final

Manchester City are running through a tight schedule of high-stakes games towards the end of the campaign. With the FA Cup 2025 Final lined up against Crystal Palace on Saturday, the Cityzens will have no time to rest as they face AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday. Andoni Iraola and his team, who play for the UECL spot, surely won’t make things easy for the Spanish manager.

Amid the packed and hectic schedule, Manchester City manager Guardiola has expressed strong disagreement with the responsible board. Pointing out that other clubs might’ve granted the liberty amid contests while his team is being overlooked, the Spaniard seemed frustrated about how his week is supposed to look.

Bournemouth Game Stays Tuesday Despite Manchester City’s FA Cup Final Demands

Guardiola, in his demands, asked to shift Manchester City’s clash to Wednesday or Thursday. However, with no changes being made, his squad will be asked to play two high-intensity games in three days towards the end of the season. Tottenham Hotspur, who play Manchester United in the Europa League final, were supposed to play Aston Villa on May 18.

Tottenham’s fixture change was viewed as a rare instance of the Premier League demonstrating flexibility, a sentiment shared by Guardiola, who felt that this flexibility was not extended to his team.

Changing the schedule, Spurs player Aston Villa on May 16, leaving them enough time to prepare for the finals. Addressing his thoughts about the scheduling, Guardiola, ahead of the FA Cup final, told the BBC:

“Tottenham Hotspur play against Aston Villa on Friday [because of] the Europa League final, yeah? Good decision. Honestly, I am not making irony or being sarcastic, the Premier League made a good decision, very good.”

“We have been fighting against this situation for nine years – every single season. Nothing [happens]. [We are told] ‘That is the deal, go. ‘

Claiming that Bournemouth is going to be yet another high-speed game, Guardiola continued:

“We are going to play Tuesday night against an intense, physical, direct and powerful team in the Premier League, like Bournemouth, who are playing to qualify for the Europa Conference League. We have to deal with that.

“What I am saying, they are playing Aston Villa v Tottenham on a Friday night, this is what they should do when it is possible. It doesn’t change much for us playing on a Tuesday or Wednesday, but they decide, and we will play here on Tuesday with our people.”

Guardiola has caught himself in the packed schedule several times. With the players being pushed more to their limits, the Man City boss will have to keep an eye on rotating the squad over the two games.

Manchester City has suffered through several injuries throughout the season. With Erling Haaland being absent majorly and players like Ilkay Gundogan and John Stones struggling to find their feet, the packed scheduling could not come at a worse time.

With eyes set on the Champions League qualification, Guardiola could take a breather if they manage it through the FA Cup win. However, given the recent standards, Manchester City possesses, finishing below the top four in the Premier League would not be an option for them either.
