Guardiola’s Tactical Transfer Window: How Manchester City Signed Three Rising Stars and Outmaneuvered the Market for 2025

Manchester City is having a shifty summer with the new recruiters arriving in multiple. Following a disappointing season to their standards, Pep Guardiola is trying to fill the voids with the arrival of Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reinders and Rayan Ait-Nouri. 

In other transfer news from the Etihad, the Citizens also reportedly tried to pursue German International Florian Wirtz. However, following the high money demands of Bayer Leverkusen, Guardiola and his team pulled out of the deal. 

Cherki, Reijnders, Ait-Nouri: City Signed Three Stars for €120 Million

Manchester City is said to have a successful transfer window bagging three well sought players for just under €120 million. Pundits and fans have appreciated the business done following the stop on trying to bring Wirtz to Manchester.

Rayan Cherki who was signed by Olympiacos Lyon is said to be Wirtz’s alternative. Signing the midfielder for £34 million, Guardiola has found a brick-for-brick alternative in his midfield following the departure of Kevin De Bruyne to Napoli

Along with Cherki, Manchester City also recruited Reijnders and Ait-Nouri of Wolverhampton. With the AC Milan fullback cost £46 million and Ait-Nouri £36 million, Guardiola has signed three potential superstars at around the cost of Wirtz’s market price. 

Wirtz was signed by Liverpool for a record fee of £112 million earlier this week. Of the reputation Manchester City has on spending big in transfers, the transfer window ahead of the Club World Cup was handled strategically by Manchester City.

With more than five players signed since the start of 2025, Manchester City is heading to a new era. With De Bruyne’s departure and Jack Grealish expected to leave, the Cityzens will put on a shuffled squad in the upcoming season as they look to get back to winning ways in the Club World Cup.
