Madison Keys begins her quest for the French Open against Daria Saville in round 1
Seventh seed Madison Keys opens her Roland Garros journey this year against Australian Daria Saville in this first-round match to be played on Court Simonne-Mathieu. The pair will be meeting only for the third time in their careers, and will be facing each other for the first time in 8 years. Keys, with her win at the Australian Open this year, will be eyeing a rare feat if she can go all the way in Paris.
Eight-ranked Madison Keys started this year with a bang, consisting of strong wins at the Adelaide International, followed by her first Grand Slam win at the Australian Open, and a strong semi-final at India Wells.
However, since then, her form during the clay season has dipped slightly. Nevertheless, Keys has won just a shade under 75% of her service games this year, and has broken her opponent on 45% of the times.
Saville hasn’t had many top performances in 2025, with the highlight of the year coming at the Merida Open in Akron, where she reached the semi-finals. The Australian has won under 60% of her service games and just a little over 30% of her return games (31.6%) this year. She will have to do better in today’s match if she is to have any chance of taking down one of the top players on tour.
Madison Keys and Daria Saville head into their third career meeting in the first round of the 2025 French Open. Their rivalry is currently split at 1-1, with Keys winning the first time and Saville, the second. Interestingly, though, the pair faced off in 2016 and 2017 but haven’t had a match since then.
| Year | Event | Round | Winner | Score |

Currently, the American is the eighth-ranked player in the world, but she has reached a high of number 5. Her ten titles include one Grand Slam at this year’s Australian Open, while Saville has just 1 title under her belt. The Australian has, however, reached as high as number 20 in the world back in 2017.
| Madison Keys | Category | Daria Saville |
|---|---|---|
| 8 | Ranking | 137 |
| 408-225 | Career W-L | 340-276 |
| 24-6 | YTD W-L | 10-14 |
| 10 | Career Titles | 1 |
| 1 | Grand Slams | 0 |
| 2 | YTD Titles | 0 |
On paper, this should be a comfortable win for Keys, who has been having a wonderful year thus far. She has a far better service game, but the main difference lies in Keys’ ability to break her opponent’s serve as compared with Saville. If Keys gets off to a good start, expect this match to be over quite quickly.
Prediction: Keys in straight sets

nfl I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
