Madison Keys looks to extend her dominant season as she takes on qualifier Aoi Ito.
Sixth seed Madison Keys faces qualifier Aoi Ito in a thrilling third-round match at the Cincinnati Open 2025. Keys enjoyed a first-round bye and next upset Eva Lys in three sets. While the 21-year-old Japanese player is riding momentum after back-to-back upsets, including a tough three-set win over 27th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova following her first-round victory against Elena-Gabriella Ruse.

Keys has been in stellar form throughout the season, clinching titles in Adelaide and Melbourne and taking down heavyweights like Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula, and Elina Svitolina. Her consistency is evident with semifinal appearances in Indian Wells and London and quarterfinal runs in Madrid, Roland Garros, and Montreal, where she fell to Clara Tauson in straight sets. This season, Keys has served 198 aces, winning 67.7% of her first-serve points, claiming 44.3% of return points, and converting 43.2% of her break-point opportunities.

The (New) Little Magician (sorry, Fabrice Santoro) casts her spell on another seeded opponent on the hardcourts of North America.

On the other side, Ito is still carving her path on the main tour. Earlier this year, she lifted her maiden WTA 125K title in Canberra but has found deeper runs harder to come by. Her recent second-round exit in Montreal reflects those challenges. In eight main-draw matches this season, Ito has served just six aces, winning 53.7% of first serves, grabbing 43.2% on returns, and impressively converting 52.5% of her break points.
Madison Keys and Aoi Ito do not have a head-to-head yet.
| Madison Keys | Category | Aoi Ito |
| 6 | Current Ranking | 94 |
| 419-230 | Career W-L | 172-89 |
| 35-11 | YTD W-L | 22-19 |
| 10 | Career Titles | 0 |
| 1 | Grand Slams | 0 |
| 2 | YTD Titles | 0 |
Madison Keys’ experience and powerful serve should prove decisive against the qualifier Aoi Ito. Expect Keys to control the match and secure a straight-sets victory.

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
