Forced out of the game on wednesday in the second quarter of the 105-99 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Mavericks’ superstar Luka Doncic underwent an MRI on thursday, revealing what many feared in Dallas. Seriously injured in the left calf, the Slovenian should miss at least one month of competition per latest medical exams.
Luka Doncic unavailability is a terrible hard blow for the latest NBA finalist, who won 10 of its last 12 games prior to the T-Wolves loss on Christmas Day in the wake of a new MVP-caliber season from its leader (28,1 points, 8,3 rebounds and 7,8 assists per game).
Awaiting Luka Doncic re-evaluation in a month, one man is expected to step up to help the Mavs remain a top team in the west : Kyrie Irving. Still posting All-Star numbers for his 14th season in the league (24,0 points, 4,6 rebounds and 5,1 assists per game), the 2012 NBA MVP will have to take his game to new heights to compensate his teammate’s absence.
