Luis Diaz Handed Three-Game Champions League Ban After Red Card in Paris

Bayern Munich will be without Luis Diaz for their next three Champions League fixtures after UEFA issued a suspension for his red card against Paris Saint-Germain. The winger was sent off in first-half stoppage time at the Parc des Princes earlier this month. UEFA ruled that the Colombian committed “serious rough play” for his challenge on Achraf Hakimi,

The decision means Bayern lose one of their most in-form players at a key point in the European campaign. Diaz had been the star of the match before his dismissal. He scored both Bayern goals in the first half of their 2-1 win.

However, his game flipped when his late tackle caught Hakimi. PSG confirmed the next day that the Moroccan defender suffered a “severe sprain” in his left ankle. As a result, Hakimi has been sidelined since. The marauding right back collected his African Footballer of the Year award this week while moving on a scooter.

Luis Diaz Suspension a Big Blow for Bayern Against Arsenal

UEFA’s three-game ban rules Diaz out of Bayern’s trip to Arsenal next Wednesday, followed by home clashes with Sporting CP on December 9 and Union Saint-Gilloise on January 21. The skillful winger has featured in all four of Bayern’s Champions League matches this season, scoring three times and helping the German champions maintain a perfect record.

Diaz has been central to Bayern’s flying start under Vincent Kompany. After joining from Liverpool in the summer, he has produced 11 goals and seven assists in 17 appearances across competitions. Bayern opened the season with 16 straight wins before a 2-2 draw with Union Berlin ended the run. His absence will test Bayern’s depth during a period in which they take on in-form Arsenal in Champions League.
