Lionel Messi Injury Update: Inter Miami Star Set To Miss Argentina World Cup Qualifiers Games

Messi To Miss Argentina’s Crucial Qualifiers Against Uruguay and Brazil Due to a Low-Grade Adductor Injury, As Confirmed by Inter Miami.

Argentina have two of their most important World Cup qualifiers games against Uruguay and Brazil this month. La Albiceleste may be sitting comfortably at the top of the CONMEBOL standings, but they still aim to win both matches. However, the job just became harder with Lionel Messi set to miss both games.

The Inter Miami ace was sure to travel for both matches as he was initially named in Argentina’s 33-man squad for the qualifiers. However, as per Inter Miami’s recent announcements, that will not be possible. Messi felt some discomfort during Inter Miami’s 2-1 victory over Atlanta United.

He underwent an MRI on Monday which revealed that the 37-year-old forward has a low-grade adductor injury. He was left out of the final 25-man roster that Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni announced on Monday. Inter Miami then released a statement, saying:

“Messi underwent an MRI this morning to assess the extent of the discomfort in his adductor region, which he experienced during last night’s match against Atlanta United. The examination’s findings confirmed the presence of a low-grade injury in the adductor muscle. His clinical progress and response to treatment will determine his availability for competition.”

Will Lionel Messi Miss Inter Miami Matches?

Inter Miami have not mentioned Messi’s recovery timeline. They’ve said his availability will be determined by how he responds to the treatment. While most of the league games in the world halt during the international break, MLS goes on. Even so, fortunately for Inter Miami, they had no games in the middle of this break.

Their next match is against Philadelphia Union on March 29. Hence, Messi’s availability for Inter Miami wouldn’t have been affected if he had traveled for the Argentina games. However, in case of his injury, it’s impossible to say now if he will be available for that match and forward. He will at least have more than 10 days of rest in the meantime.

Injury Concerns and Load Management

Lionel Messi has already missed three Inter Miami matches since the season began. It wasn’t due to any injury, but load management. Hence, fans can expect to miss Messi time and again throughout the season. With his age, the chances of injuries increase as well.

However, those chances decrease with proper load management which Inter Miami are already doing. In that case, they will have their star player available in crucial fixtures. After missing three fixtures, Messi’s first match back was as a substitute. Despite concerns, he played the next match against Atlanta United the full 90 minutes.

He felt discomfort in his left thigh following that match. Argentina have tough fixtures, so they would have wanted Messi with them. However, many Argentine players are in good form, playing in Europe. Hence, they should be able to sail through.
