LeBron James eyes major NBA record against Hawks

LeBron James is poised to break a major record and he could do it on Friday when Lakers face Atlanta Hawks.

LeBron James has defied Father Time in ways that few athletes in history have ever managed. Now in his 22nd NBA season, the Los Angeles Lakers forward continues to produce at a level that would make many 20-year-olds embarrassed.

LeBron, who celebrated his 40th birthday on December 30, shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, the King is poised to break a major record that NBA legend Michael Jordan has held for long.

In his second game after turning 40, James looked his vintage best as he led the Lakers to 114-106 win over Portland Trailblazers on Thursday.

The 4-time MVP scored 38 points with eight assists and got good support from youngster Max Christie who added a career-high 28 as the Los Angeles side make it six wins in their last eight games.

It was LeBron’s 562nd 30-point game, which ties him with Michael Jordan’s record. The 20-time All-Star will have a chance to surpass Jordan’s record for most 30-point games in the Lakers’ next game against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday.

While speaking with reporters after on his 40th birthday last week, James discussed the possibility of retirement and made it clear that he can still perform at high-level for another 5-7 years.

“It won’t be because I can’t play this game at a high level. It won’t be because of that,” he said. “‘Cause, to be honest, if I really wanted to, I probably could play this game at a high level for about another—weird that I might say it—but about another five to seven years, if I wanted to”, the 40-year-old added.
