Leagues Cup Final: Luis Suarez Spits and Sparks a Fight After Seattle Sounders Thrash Inter Miami 3–0

The 2025 Leagues Cup Final ended in humiliation for Lionel Messi and Inter Miami as they were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by the Seattle Sounders. What was billed as another historic night for Messi instead turned into a nightmare. Miami were outplayed on the pitch and Luis Suarez sparked a controversy after the game as he appeared to spit on Seattle staff.

Seattle took control of the contest early, with De Rosario’s 26th-minute strike putting them ahead as Miami struggled to find a foothold in the game. Inter Miami’s hopes of a second-half response were repeatedly dashed by the Sounders’ sharp counterattacks. A late penalty from Alex Roldan doubled Seattle’s lead before Paul Rothrock added a third to seal a memorable triumph for the MLS side, which consigned Miami to a crushing defeat.

Luis Suarez Spits on Seattle Sounders Staff and Sparks a Fight

But the final whistle brought even more drama. Clearly frustrated by the result, Inter Miami striker Luis Suarez stormed towards Sounders midfielder Obed Vargas during the post-match celebrations. Notably, Suarez put the 20-year-old into a headlock with the altercation immediately triggering a mass brawl. Players and staff from both teams clashed on the pitch as punches were thrown between the two sides.

While order was eventually restored, Suarez’s actions didn’t end there. The former Barcelona striker appeared to confront a Sounders assistant coach. In the heat of the moment, cameras captured Suarez spitting in the direction of Seattle Sounders assistant coach, who refused to speak to him.

Suarez was eventually pulled away by Miami goalkeeper Oscar Ustari and Sounders staff. However, the damage was already done. For Messi and Inter Miami, the defeat capped off a bitterly disappointing night. Meanwhile, Suarez could face disciplinary action for his violent outburst and spitting incident.
