“Too Many Mistakes”- Lando Norris Reacts to Canadian GP Qualifying!

Rohan Singh

Lando Norris talks about his P7 finish in the qualifying session on Saturday!

Lando Norris is in a tight battle for the 2025 driver’s championship. He has a well performing car at his hands to help him claim the title. However, Norris is unable to perform better than his teammate. Even after winning two races, Lando Norris is at a disadvantage against his teammate, the championship leader.

The 2025 Canadian Grand Prix qualifying was a day to forget for Lando Norris. The Briton who is usually fast in qualifying could only manage a P7 on Saturday. Meanwhile, his teammate is starting the Canadian GP from P3. Ever since the first race, Norris is lacking against his teammate when the latter is ahead of him. And, with drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso ahead, he will face a tough time right from the race start.

Lando Norris Rebukes Himself for Bad Qualifying Performance

Lando Norris already called out his car for being tricky during the practice sessions. He was under confident with the McLaren. During the final stages of the qualifying session, his team opted for soft tyres. Compared to the McLarens their rivals were must faster with the medium compound tyres.

In his post-qualifying interview, Norris talked about pushing too hard and committing too many mistakes. According to him, it was the prime reason for losing out against the rivals in the qualifying session.

“Good enough for a top three, probably not good enough for pole. Hard to know how much was maybe the medium tyre performing that little bit better, especially when the grip comes up. Maybe the medium is a touch better but it was a gamble.”

Now Lando Norris needs to push harder during the race. He is at a 10 point deficit to his main championship rival. Compared to him, his rival Oscar Piastri is starting from third and feeling much better regarding his performance.

Lando Norris can benefit from the rivalry between the front row. His McLaren is undoubtedly faster than the cars in front of him. Norris will need to take chances early on. If he spends too much time behind the dirty air of the slower cars, he will face much more difficulty when attacking Oscar Piastri. The 2025 Canadian GP is going to be worth the wait.
