Lakers vs. Hornets NBA game is in jeopardy as wildfires in Los Angeles continue to spiral out of control

There is also a suspense on LA Clippers' next game which is scheduled on Saturday in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Lakers will kick off their five-game homestand on Thursday and the first game against Charlotte Hornets is seriously in doubt due to the Pacific Palisades wildfire. NBA are monitoring the situation and the match might be postponed. NHL side, LA Kings postponed their home game on Wednesday.

The wildfire is spreading all over South California and 80000 people have been evacuated. The officials are busy to control the situation and it could be worse considering the speed of Santa Ana winds. According to the National Weather Service, these winds produce gusts up to 100 mph in mountains and foothills. As per reports, two residents have been died due to fire.

NHL immediately took a call and decided to postpone the Flames-Kings match which is scheduled to play at 8:30 pm Mountain time on Wednesday. “The thoughts of the entire NHL family are with the Kings, hockey fans and the people of the Los Angeles area during this difficult time,” the NHL issued a statement.

NBA now will take a call in a few hours on Thursday’s Hornets-Lakers game at Crypto.com Arena. Lakers head coach JJ Redick has already addressed the situation and shared that his family was evacuated from the Pacific Palisades area.

“I just want to acknowledge and send thoughts and prayers to everyone in the Palisades right now. That’s where I live. Our family, my wife’s family, my wife’s twin sister, they’ve evacuated,” Redick told reporters in Dallas. “I know a lot of people are freaking out right now, including my family. From the sound of things, I know a lot of people are scared. So I just want to acknowledge that.”

NBA spokesman Mike Bass issued a statement for the Lakers-Hornets game: “We are in communication with the Lakers and Hornets and continue to closely monitor the situation to determine if any scheduling adjustments are necessary related to tomorrow night’s game.”

LeBron James also shared his thoughts on the worst situation in Los Angeles. “Praying for everyone in Southern California!! !” the Lakers guard wrote in an X post after the loss to the Mavericks.

Will it affect Los Angeles Clippers as well?

Los Angeles Clippers will also monitor the situation and if the Lakers’ game gets postponed, it will surely affect their game against the Hornets on Saturday. Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard left the game against Denver Nuggets on Wednesday due to the same situation as his family was also evacuated in Los Angeles.

Clippers will take flight to Los Angeles and play their next game on Saturday. Their home court is close to the LAX and this area might be affected due to wildfire. LA Clippers will play three games at Intuit Dome. As per Kevin McGowan, the director of Emergency Management for LA County, the country is facing a historic natural disaster.

The NFL schedule would also be affected due to the Pacific Palisades wildfire. The NFL issued a statement on Wednesday that the league “continues to closely monitor developments in the area and will remain in contact with both clubs and the NFLPA.”
