Buffalo stadium faces lake-effect snow concerns as the Bills prepare to host the 49ers, raising questions about game conditions and logistics.
Following a harsh defeat on Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers will encounter another challenging opponent in Week 13’s Sunday Night Football game against the Buffalo Bills, as a powerful winter storm is forecasted to bring snow, freezing temperatures, and strong winds to western New York.
The FOX Forecast Center predicts significant lake-effect snow, expecting several feet of snow in areas close to and below Highmark Stadium during the prolonged event, which will last until next week.
A warning for lake-effect snow at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park is in effect for the game’s duration, but new projections suggest the snow may move south of Orchard Park by Sunday evening.
The amount of snow can vary significantly based on the location of the lake-effect snow bands. The National Weather Service office in Buffalo stated that significant amounts of snow could occur in the persistent lake-effect snow areas throughout the weekend. “Snowfall rates are expected to range between 1 to 2 inches per hour on average, with the potential for even higher rates.”

Predictors cautioned that traveling will be extremely challenging and, occasionally deemed as “almost unachievable” because of limited visibility and thick snow on roads.
The Bills had a week off after defeating the previously unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs. Rest and familiarity with playing in harsh weather conditions may give the Bills an edge in possibly achieving a seven-game winning streak.
There is a possibility that Dalton Kincaid, the Bills’ tight end, will return for the game against the 49ers on Sunday. He would be an excellent choice to start as your primary tight end or as a flexible option, as he has the potential to be the top target for the Bills this season.
Additionally, rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman is expected to make a return from a wrist injury.
It is uncertain whether San Francisco’s starting quarterback, Brock Purdy, will be able to play on Sunday, as he hurt his shoulder in Week 11 versus Seattle. In the meantime, with Christian McCaffrey now fully recovered, he should be a definite starter in your RB1 spot. The current NFL Offensive Player of the Year was limited to just 31 yards in their match against Green Bay. However, fantasy owners can expect more than 11 carries in this game, considering the potential poor visibility caused by snow and wind.
Temperatures will feel like they are in the single digits to the lower teens due to the possibility of winds gusting up to 30 mph and arctic air moving in. Strong winds will make it difficult to kick, while chilly temperatures can impact how effectively a quarterback throws the ball.
If heavy snow bands form over Orchard Park, Highmark Stadium might experience another snow globe game like in previous years.
