La Liga: Barcelona vs Girona – Injury News, Injury Update, Predicted Lineups and More

Moumita Dutta

Key Injuries, Predicted Lineups & Match Preview for the Catalan Club’s Fight Stay at the Top of the Table on March 30.

Barcelona will look to extend their winning streak and strengthen their place at the top of the table as they host Catalan rivals Girona at home on Sunday afternoon. La Blaugrana are coming into this match with a dominant 3-0 win against Osasuna on Thursday.

With that win, they moved three points clear of second-placed Real Madrid at the top of La Liga. However, the win also became clouded by controversy as Osasuna appealed to the Spanish FA mentioning Barca defender Inigo Martinez was ineligible to play that match.

On the other hand, Girona are sitting in 13th position in the league table with 34 points. They’re coming into this match following a 1-1 draw against Valencia. Michel’s side have struggled this season. They’ve won only once in their last nine league matches.

Even though they’re trying to turn it around with a three-game unbeaten streak, Girona have a long way to go. They look far from their impressive 2023-24 La Liga campaign where they finished third. Here’s the team news and injury updates which can affect the game for both teams.

Barcelona Injury News

Barcelona will have a squad boost with Raphinha back in the midst. He missed the Osasuna match because of international duty. Young defender Pau Cubarsi also looks fit after recovering from a minor ankle issue. He sustained the injury which was initially doubted as a major one during the international break.

Ronald Araújo, who was benched in the last match, is another defensive option for Hansi Flick. However, Barcelona are facing a setback with Dani Olmo ruled out for about three weeks due to an adductor injury.

Olmo sustained the injury in their latest match against Osasuna. Robert Lewandowski was rested in their last game, so he will be expected to start this one. Meanwhile, Andreas Christensen, Marc Casado, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and Marc Bernal still remain unavailable with their respective injuries.

Barcelona probable starting lineup:

Szczesny; Balde, Cubarsi, Araujo, Kounde; Pedri, De Jong; Raphinha, Gavi, Yamal; Lewandowski

Girona Injury News

Girona are coming into this game without Abel Ruiz, Jhon Solis, and Ivan Martin. All three will remain sidelined due to injuries. Additionally, Donny van de Beek will be serving out his suspension after receiving a late yellow card against Valencia.

With Martín unavailable, coach Michel could turn to Oriol Romeu for midfield reinforcement. Cristhian Stuani, who has scored four goals against Barcelona so far, also scored in Girona’s last match. Hence, he may be called to start as the central striker. However tough it may be, Girona will look to end their winless streak in this match.

Girona probable starting lineup:

Gazzaniga; Gutierrez, Krejci, Blind, A Martinez; Arthur, Romeu, Herrera; Danjuma, Stuani, Tsygankov
