La Liga: Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona – Injury News, Injury Update, Predicted Lineups and More

Moumita Dutta

Key Injuries, Predicted Lineups & Match Preview for the Crucial Clash of the Toppers on March 16.

Atletico Madrid will face Barcelona at home in a high-stake La Liga clash on Sunday. The title race between the top three is heading up as the only four points separate the three clubs at the top.

Currently, Barcelona are sitting in second place in the league table with 57 points from 26 matches. Whereas, Atletico Madrid are in third place with 56 points from 27 matches. Even so, Atletico Madrid held off Barcelona to a 4-4 draw in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg.

Barcelona are entering this match confident after progressing into the Champions League quarter-final comfortably with a 3-1 win against Benfica. Whereas, Atletico played their UCL round of 16 second leg into extended minutes and penalties to come to a decision.

However, it was Real Madrid who came out winners and Atletico got knocked out of the competition. Additionally, the hosts also lost 2-1 against Getafe in their last league match. Even so, while Atletico may be coming with their morale down, after falling through the UCL, they will be determined to do better in La Liga.

Here’s the team news and injury updates which can affect the all-important La Liga match for both teams.

Atletico Madrid Injury News

Atletico Madrid will miss Angel Correa who will be serving a suspension after he saw a red card in their defeat to Getafe. Their captain Koke also remains a doubt along with reliable midfielder Rodrigo de Paul who sustained a knock during their clash against Real Madrid.

However, he could make a recovery in time to appear for the important fixture. Coach Diego Simeone might play the same XI that played against Real Madrid in the UCL except one change – introducing Nahuel Molina coming in place of Marcos Llorente.

Atletico Madrid probable starting lineup:

Oblak; Reinildo, Lenglet, Gimenez, Molina; Gallagher, Barrios, De Paul, Simeone; Alvarez, Griezmann

Barcelona Injury News

Barcelona will have to do without already long-time absentees with knee injuries – reliable goalkeeper Marc Andre ter Stegen and Marc Bernal. Whereas, Andreas Christensen is now fit enough and considering the coach’s decision, he could be included in the matchday squad.

With several key players performing exceptionally well, coach Hansi Flick will have to make tough decisions. He could continue with his regular reliable choices though with Dani Olmo and Frankie de Jong starting, and no changes to the attacking trio – Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal.

Barcelona probable starting lineup:

Szczesny; Balde, Cubarsi, Araujo, Kounde; Pedri, De Jong; Raphinha, Olmo, Yamal; Lewandowski
