LA Lakers Reportedly Eye Day’Ron Sharpe And Jericho Sims To Power Up Center Position

The Los Angeles Lakers are very active in the 2025 postseason to address their center issues following a disappointing end to the past season. The Lakers, who grabbed third spot in the standings following a 50-32 run, faced early elimination from the playoffs. They were kicked out by the Minnesota Timberwolves after a 4-1 loss in the first round. The Lakers know that they need to have a stronger center, who can not only accompany Luka Doncic, but also strengthen their roster.

The Brooklyn Nets’ Nic Claxton and Dallas Mavericks’ Daniel Gafford are the names that have emerged as two primary interests for the team. While Claxton has been referred to in trade rumors, the Lakers are inclined towards Gafford and might try to trade him if his contract doesn’t work out with the Mavs. Moreover, free agents such as Clint Capela and Brook Lopez have also been linked.

However, as per the latest report by Bleacher Report, the LA Lakers might sign young guns such as Day’Ron Sharpe or Jericho Sims.

Would Day’Ron Sharpe or Jericho Sims Be the Right Fit For LA Lakers?

Sharpe has been one of the most interesting names to follow during his stint with the Brooklyn Nets. Heading into the postseason as an unrestricted free agent, the 23-year-old recorded an average of 7.9 points and 6.6 rebounds, while shooting 52.1% FG. Despite not being a starter, he has given the side a tremendous boost and displayed great prowess around the basket.

He is young, highly energetic and is great at grabbing rebounds, especially on offense. His 6’11” and 265 lb frame would allow him to set screens as well as catch passes for dunks. On the other hand, Jericho Sims, the 26-year-old Milwaukee Bucks star, is coming off a below-par 2024-25 season. Having played 53 games for the side, Sims averaged 1.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest.

The 6’10” center has an athletic frame and can jump high, which makes him a good fit for Doncic. Sims is similar to Jaxson Hayes in this regard, and hence, could be given an upgrade if Hayes leaves as a free agent.
