Kevin Durant Next Team Odds: Will the superstar run it back with Stephen Curry or join young blood?

Kevin Durant remains the epitome of individual success. The 36-year-old had phenomenal numbers in his 17th season. He put up 26.6 points, 6 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1-2 blocks per game. The brilliant forward made 52.7% of his shots from the field, including 2.6 triples on a career-high 43% clip. These numbers scream MVP talent. However, team success has eluded him in the last six years.

He left the Golden State Warriors with three straight finals appearances, culminating in two championships. Since then, he has had a forgettable tenure at the Brooklyn Nets, where he couldn’t get past the Eastern Semis. And now, an even more hurtful time with the Phoenix Suns, as he failed to make the playoffs during the 2024-25 campaign.

On that note, ESPN insider Shams Charania reported that the Suns might trade Kevin Durant during the offseason. There are plenty of suitors, but then there is the contract issue. KD will enter the last year of his 4-year, $194 million contract during the 2025-26 season. Who will take on the $54 million salary next season? Or will there be a buyout? At any rate, here are the odds regarding Durant’s next destination.

Houston Rockets: +130

Per Bovada, the Rockets are the favorites to land the high-scoring forward. They have a lot of draft capital to offer. The team can potentially offer one first-round pick, and package someone like Dillon Brooks or a young player like Reed Sheppard to make it happen. But will they want to tamper with what they are building? The team just reached the second seed in the West during the 2024-25 season but a lot will depend on how they finish the postseason. The idea of having a scoring option like Durant alongside Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun makes sense on paper.

Golden State Warriors: +325

Will Durant run it back with the team where he had the best period of his basketball career? The system is pretty much the same with Steve Kerr in place and Stephen Curry gunning it from deep. The team added Jimmy Butler to boost the defense while Draymond Green continues to be one of the best defenders. However, it is the same Green who was partially responsible for Durant’s departure. As per Bovada, the Dubs are one of the favorites to land him. But what do they give Suns in return? A developing player like Brandin Podziemski sounds risky, but who knows…

San Antonio Spurs: +325

Ah, a trio of KD, De’Aaron Fox, and Victor Wembanyama sounds fascinating. Durant will surely be a huge help on the offensive end for Wemby, who lacked such support during the 2024-25 season. At the same time, he is a strong defender and can elevate the Spurs on both ends. But the Spurs may be asked to part ways with a first-round pick or a young player(probably Stephon Castle). They do have the cap space to make it happen, tho. That’s why, per Bovada, they have similar odds as the Warriors in this case.

Minnesota Timberwolves: +700

Who can forget the visuals of Anthony Edwards yapping at Durant during the 2024 playoffs? But it’s no secret that Ant-Man considers Durant his idol. It’s not a bad idea to join a young and hungry guy who will only get better after leading the league in threes, is it? This fit makes most sense, and the Timberwolves can make it happen. That’s why Bovada has ranked them among the favorites

New York Knicks: +700

A trio of Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Kevin Durant, nice. The Knicks can shift Josh Hart in the sixth man role and do a size galore with Mikal Bridges, Kevin Durant, OG Anunoby, and KAT in the frontline. The fit makes sense, but coach Tom Thibodeau may not be interested in acquiring an ageing athlete at this point.

Conclusion

Overall, Durant is still a huge difference-maker and will draw massive interest. The lack of recent playoff success can’t be pinned on him as the units around him have lacked the energy to make a big push. His fit with the Timberwolves makes a lot of sense, but there is no guarantee that he will get the desired team success in the current environment. Anyway, the Kevin Durant storyline will be one of the most intriguing ones during the 2025 offseason.
