Chelsea who came in with a lot to stake picked up three crucial points from the newly-crowned Premier League champions Liverpool on Sunday. Enzo Marseca’s side are chasing Newcastle’s shadow as they level them on 63 points at fifth place. Manchester City with 64 points would also be said to be in the same race.

Cole Palmer scored the penalty in injury time marking his first goal since months in the Premier League. Despite being the best player for Chelsea this season, there are questions raised about his consistency. However, the former Manchester City man has also impressed many football pundits like Keano and Gary Neville.

‘I’ve Had It My Whole Life’ – Cole Palmer On The Critics and Social Media

Chelsea’s star boy had a flying start to the season competing for the Golden Boot race till winter. However, Palmer had a rough patch in terms of the scoresheet before sealing the victory at the Stamford Bridge. Talking about his goal and how he handles social media critics, Palmer in his post-game interview said:

“To score today, I’m happy. But it’s only one. Getting chances and not scoring and letting your team at the end of the day.”

“I went three months without scoring. It gives me a reason to fight back. Social media nowadays is full of videos and trolls, I don’t pay no attention to that.”

“I feel like I’m mentally strong. Whatever people are saying, I’ve had it all my life. I take pride in helping my and if I’m not doing that it makes me upset”

Moises Caicedo who handed over the POTM trophy to Palmer also applauded Palmer’s efforts quoting:

Former Manchester United player Roy Keane praised the brilliance of Palmer this season following his performance against Liverpool. Talking about the various traits the midfielder holds, Keane on Sky Sports said:

“It’s the football intelligence he’s got. The decision-making, when to pierce, when to pass. He’s got that acceleration and he’s a tough kid. Palmer is a tough kid. It all under pressure, he’s one of the kids who people would pay to come and watch, he’s that good”

Garry Neville in his post-match interview also made an interesting take on Palmer as he said: “He’s nowhere near the level of Cristiano Ronaldo but I’m putting him in the same sentence here.”

Palmer led Chelsea to a comfortable start in the Premier League campaign. However, after a stumbling lead to 2025, they currently tussle with clubs like Manchester City, Newcastle and Aston Villa. Maresca and his side will take a huge positive after grabbing the three points on Sunday.
