Karen Khachanov vs. Nishesh Basavareddy Preview, Prediction, and Betting Odds for US Open 2025 Round – 1

Rudra Dubey

Khachanov’s experience meets Basavareddy's run in the US Open opener.

Ninth seed Karen Khachanov will open his US Open campaign against American wild card Nishesh Basavareddy in the first round. Khachanov’s season has been marked by flashes of form but also stretches of inconsistency. After a sluggish start, he found momentum in Barcelona with a semifinal run, though Holger Rune stopped him short. The Russian followed up with another semifinal in Halle, quarterfinals in Geneva, Libema, and Wimbledon, and a strong showing in Toronto, where he pushed Ben Shelton to three sets in the final. Still, his overall results have lacked steadiness. Statistically, Khachanov has produced 290 aces this year, winning 73% of first-serve points, 28% of first-serve return points, and converting 39% of 389 break-point chances.

For Basavareddy, this year has been about beginnings. Turning pro in December 2024, the 20-year-old is still carving his identity on the ATP Tour. His run to the Auckland semifinals in January, where he fell to Gael Monfils, marked a glimpse of his potential. More recently, fatigue forced him to retire in Cincinnati. Despite mostly early exits, the young American climbed to a career-high No. 99 in June and currently sits at No. 104. His numbers show promise with 63 aces struck, 69% first-serve points won, 25% first-serve return points won, and a 35% break-point conversion from 83 chances.

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
