Jorge Jesus Reunites with Cristiano Ronaldo as New Al Nassr Head Coach

In a move that is set to reshape Al Nassr, Jorge Jesus is set to become the new head coach of the club. He is taking over the Saudi club from the previous coach Stefano Pioli. The confirmation of the deal has come from the renowned journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The employment of Jesus marks a reunion between the Portuguese icon with another at the club – Cristiano Ronaldo. He reportedly played a key role in advocating for the appointment. According to reports, Jesus has accepted a one-year contract.

However, the contract is supposedly arriving with an option for renewal, with his salary expected to reach €7 million annually. Al Nassr’s management hope that the veteran coach will bring a winning mentality to the squad and restore the team to the top of the Saudi Pro League for the first time since 2023.

Growing Influence of Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo recently extended his contract with Al Nassr until 2027. He was said to be directly involved in the managerial search. Multiple reports revealed that Ronaldo personally suggested Jorge Jesus as the best fit to lead the club’s next chapter.

Al Nassr president Musalli Al Muammar called Ronaldo choosing to extend his contract a ‘historic’ move. He noted that the striker’s influence “goes beyond football.” Ronaldo and Jesus reportedly held talks before the deal was finalized.

It’s clear that the two outlined their shared vision for the upcoming season. A major part of Jesus’ mission will probably be to support Ronaldo in achieving his historic goal of 1,000 career goals. This, along with mounting a serious challenge for both domestic and continental silverware.

Pioli’s Departure and Al Nassr’s Ambitions

Stefano Pioli parted ways with Al Nassr after an underwhelming campaign that saw the club finish third in the league. With that, they missed out on AFC Champions League qualification as well. Despite his previous Serie A title with AC Milan, Pioli failed to replicate that success in Riyadh.

Jorge Jesus, who left Al Hilal earlier this year, now returns to the Saudi Pro League with vast experience and silverware under his belt. The club now looks to assert itself on the Asian stage. Especially with the synergy between Ronaldo and Jesus working as key in propelling Al Nassr.
