Jonathan Kuminga Injury Update: Warriors forward to return soon as pursuit of playoffs begins

Kuminga will be on minutes restrictions whenever he returns to the roaster.

The Golden State Warriors dropped a major update on their star forward, Jonathan Kuminga, who is recovering from an ankle injury. The 22-year-old is likely to make a return after missing 21 games. Kuminga last played on Jan. 4 against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Warriors Public Relations shared on X that Jonathan Kuminga has returned to practice for the first time in over a month. This is the major development ahead of Golden State’s first game since All-Star Weekend against the Sacramento Kings.

Jonathan Kuminga’s return for the team practice is a huge boost for Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors. However, the franchise will not make a rush to include him in their game against the Kings. Kuminga will be on minutes restrictions whenever he returns to the roaster and will take a couple of days to get match fitness.

Warriors PR issued a statement which reads, “Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, who suffered a sprained right ankle on January 4 vs. Memphis and has missed the last 21 games, returned to team practice this evening at Chase Center for the first time since sustaining the injury. His return to game action will be based on his continued progress and physical readiness.”

Jonathan Kuminga has appeared in 32 games and he remained out since Jan. 4 following an ankle sprain. The 22-year-old has averaged 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists this season. He is a standout performer on the Warriors’ bench.

Golden State Warriors’ fortune has also been changed since acquiring Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat as part of a multi-team trade. Butler is providing depth to the Warriors, who are 3-1 since acquiring him. The former Miami star is averaging 21.3 points per game.

Golden State Warriors will go on a two-game trip after the home clash against the Sacramento Kings. Steve Kerr’s side will take on the Dallas Mavericks and the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday and Tuesday on the road.
