Winner to face Griekspoor or Brooksby in Round-2.
Brazilian prodigy Joao Fonseca is set to make his Wimbledon main draw debut on Monday, as he faces home favourite Jacob Fearnley in Round-1 of the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. Regardless of the result, one thing is for certain – absolute fireworks from the British and South American crowds. Can the 18-year-old keep up his unbeaten streak against Fearnley?
A year ago, Joao Fonseca lost in the opening round of qualifying at Wimbledon. The 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals winner has been breaking new ground at all the majors in 2025. Having displayed a high level of tennis in the grass court season so far, Fonseca lost in three sets to Cobolli at Halle and to Fritz in Eastbourne. The World No. 54 enters this match with a record of 13-10 this year, and a solitary title at the Argentina Open to show for it.
Meanwhile, Jacob Fearnley is ranked just outside the Top-50 at the moment. Having impressed Novak Djokovic en route to a Round of 64 finish at SW19 last year, Fearnley will be aiming to beat his own career-best performance. The 23-year-old reached the quarterfinal stage at the HSBC Championships in London – improving his 2025 stats to 14-12 ahead of Wimbledon.
Joao Fonseca leads the head-to-head against Jacob Fearnley by 1-0. Their only meeting was at the Indian Wells Masters in 2025.
In the Round of 128, Fonseca and Fearnley played out a three set thriller. Unfortunately, the Brazilian was eliminated in the next round by fellow Briton Jack Draper – who went on to win the tournament. Monday’s opening round battle will be the first time these two players square off on grass.

Fearnley’s grass court game has rapidly improved, which explains how three out of his four career victories on this surface have come in 2025. He has been serving extremely well this year, striking nearly 70% first serve in his loss to Giron at Eastbourne. On the other hand, Fonseca will have the edge in baseline exchanges.
Prediction: Jacob Fearnley in five sets.
