Alcaraz has posted a 42-5 record this season and won five titles.
The defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz will take on Fabio Fognini, the Italian veteran in the opening round of the 2025 Wimbledon championship. The Spaniard is coming off a great season where he claimed the Roland Garros title for the second straight year. Fognini, on the other hand, is likely to step up for the final time in London. It’s a battle of era and Alcaraz would look to make a statement victory on Day 1.

Carlos Alcaraz is in his prime phase of the career and enter the fixture as the reigning winner. The Spaniard would eye to defend his Wimbledon title one more time and become only the 9th men’s player to win the championship three in a row. In this century, only Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic won three straight Wimbledon titles. He recently won the Roland Garros after beating Jannik Sinner in a high-intense final.
Alcaraz has posted a 42-5 record this season and won five titles. The Spaniard reached the final in 5 consecutive tournaments, and lost only one in Barcelona. He has gone 25-1 on grass court since the 2022 Sinner loss. He is unbeaten in the Wimbledon since 2023. The world No. 2 is coming through a title in Queen’s Club championship which was a warm-up event for him on grass court.

Fabio Fognini is on his final journey of the career and his first assignment is against the five-time Grand Slam winner. He has a terrible 4-14 record in the season and is yet to win a game on grass (0-3). He faced defeats against Moutet, Fery, Altmaier on this surface in 2025. Fognini hasn’t been impressive at Wimbledon, losing 11 out of 14 first round matchups. He made third round appearances six out of last 8. Fognini became pro in 2004 but still, his grass record is disappointing with 26-36. He hasn’t defeated a top-5 player since 2019 when he defeated Nadal to reach maiden Masters 1000 final.
Carlos Alcaraz have taken a 2-0 lead over Fabio Fognini in the ATP H2H meetings. Both meetings came at Rio de Janeiro and Fognini managed to win just one set against Carlos. Their rivalry began right here on the Rio Clay in 2023, where Alcaraz cruised past the Italian in straight sets.

Carlos Alcaraz is an all-court player and won Wimbledon championship twice which is a huge landmark. Fognini can take advantage of Alcaraz starts slow. However, the Spaniard has the ability to turn the table like he did in the Roland Garros final. Carlos offers a complete package of all-court player and he can easily counter Fognini through his early returns, and aggressive forehand court control.
Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in straight sets.
As of 1/100, Alcaraz is a heavy favorite, and rightly so given his in-season form and Wimbledon record. Fabio Fognini’s 50/1 odds reflect his poor run of form this season and lack of consistency on grass.
