Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Shuts Down Reporter Questioning His Methods, Establishes He Wishes to Take the Jets Forward His Way!

As an NFL player or coach in New York, one of the most difficult things to deal with is the press. New York reporters are notoriously known for questioning every move made, scrutinizing every decision taken, and being unrelenting when it comes to getting their answers.

But a new era of football for the green and white may be on its way with the former Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator taking his first-ever head coaching job with the New York Jets. Glenn seems to be at ease with the hard-nosed type of media that exists here.

Aaron Glenn Is Running Things His Way

A recent example of Glenn being at ease with the New York media was evident following the Jets’ week 3 preseason loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. One of the reporters tried to ask Glenn the reason behind starting rookie quarterback Brady Cook over second-year signal caller Adrian Martinez, to which Glenn’s response was a firm but steady “My decision!”

As the reporter pressed further to find out the logic behind the head coach’s reasoning, a similarly toned response met his ears once again as Glenn kept repeating “My decision!”

This may not sound like anything out of the ordinary, but when compared to what transpired last season with another defensive-minded head coach in Robert Saleh, it seems that the Jets may have the right man for the job this time around.

Glenn, who is a former cornerback in the league and one who played the first 8 seasons of his career in the Big Apple, probably had an idea of what to expect from this media, which certainly makes things a lot easier. In Detroit, he ran the defense his way, and the Lions were a top unit under him. He now brings his expertise to the Jets as the team looks to take significant strides in a new direction.

Impact of Starting Cook Over Martinez

Coming to the two players in question, both Martinez and Cook have played in all three games for the Jets during the preseason, but in the game against the Eagles, it was the rookie Cook who showed more promise.

While the stats are comparable between the two, Cook’s overall process and ability to make the big plays when given the time to do so showed he was a step ahead of Martinez. Perhaps Glenn had already realized this in practice, which is why he gave the nod for Cook to start.

One of the two will be the Jets’ third-string signal caller behind starter Justin Fields and backup Tyrod Taylor. The Jets will open their new season with a home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ironically, that sets up a match against former starter under center, Aaron Rodgers, who was brushed aside by the man himself, Aaron Glenn.
