The New Orleans Pelicans selected Jeremiah Fears as the seventh pick in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft. Fears, a former Oklahoma Sooners’ Guard, began his basketball journey at Joliet West High School in Joliet, Illinois. However, he was transferred to AZ Compass Prep for his junior year, where he finished with an average of 14.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. A four-star prospect, Fears joined Illinois for his college after narrowing down offers from Providence, Kansas, Michigan, and Ole Miss.

In his debut game for Oklahoma, Fears scored 16 points, five rebounds and six assists off the bench against Lindenwood. His career-high performance came against Michigan in the 2024 Jumpman Invitational. With this, he became the first Oklahoma true freshman since Trae Young in 2018 to score 30-plus points. The 18-year-old was named as one of the 25 finalists for the Wooden Award. He finished his collegiate career at an average of 17.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per contest.
