Jeddah Confirms the Final Eight for the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals as Joao Fonseca’s Withdrawal Opens a Wild Card Spot

The lineup for the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals is complete, confirming eight of the highest-ranked under-20 players who qualified and will be playing from 17 to 21 December.

The event, staged at King Abdullah Sports City, will miss reigning champion Joao Fonseca, who withdrew due to an injury “sustained at the end of the 2025 ATP Tour season,” opening the door for wild card entrant Rafael Jodar. With Fonseca out, the focus shifts to a field led by top qualifier Jakub Mensik and last year’s runner-up Learner Tien.

A new cast steps into the spotlight

The final eight for the ATP Next Gen 2025 features Jakub Mensik, Learner Tien, Alexander Blockx, Dino Prizmic, Martín Landaluce, Nicolai Budkov Kjaer, Nishesh Basavareddy, and Rafael Jodar, with Rei Sakamoto and Justin Engel named as alternates. Each arrives in Jeddah on the strength of a compelling season that aligns with the tournament’s purpose for the most promising players aged 20 and under.

Mensik, at 20, leads the group with 2,180 points in the 2025 ATP Live Race. His season turned heads after a remarkable title run at the Miami Open in March, a result that propelled him to 19th in the year-end rankings. A return to the Next Gen stage gives him a chance to build on his 2024 appearance.

Tien also returns with firm ambitions. The American reached a career-high of 28th this season and secured his first ATP Tour crown at the Moselle Open. His consistent level placed him in the final at the China Open and carried him to the fourth round of the Australian Open as a qualifier. After finishing runner-up to Fonseca last year, he enters Jeddah with momentum to contend again.
