Jason Whitlock Goes Off on Indiana Fever for ‘Cheating on Fans’ About Caitlin Clark’s Return

Clark has only featured in 13 of Fever's 42 games this season.

Renowned sports columnist Jason Whitlock slammed Indiana Fever for cheating on fans and lying to them about Caitlin Clark’s return. Notably, the Fever announced an update about Clark’s injury recently and revealed that she wouldn’t return to action for the remainder of the season. It came as a disappointment for the fans who were waiting for their favorite WNBA star to return as the league heads into the playoffs.

Whitlock said that the Fever made the announcement just before the 2025 NFL season hoping that it would overshadow the Clark update. “WNBA, you’re dead,” Whitlock said. The WNBA pretty much blew its opportunity this year. And when Caitlin Clark announced that she was not returning this season, I’m just sitting here shaking my head like, ‘They blew their opportunity.’ They have one shot. You talk about a fumble. This will go down as one of the greatest fumbles in sports history. They had a chance to elevate themselves. Instead, they disappointed this entire new fan base.”

He added, “Caitlin Clark’s entire sophomore season in the WNBA seemed shady as hell. Did they know since July that she was not coming back? And they wait until now and they announce it an hour before the NFL season kicks off?”

Notably, the last time Clark laced up for the Fever was on July 15. The 23-year-old had high hopes from her sophomore season considering she brought multiple laurels to her side during rookie season and ended up winning the ROTY Award. However, multiple injuries crushed her as well as fans’ dreams who wanted to see the two-time WNBA All-Star lead the Fever to playoffs and the ultimate glory.

Jason Whitlock Feels WNBA Players are Unlikable

Apart from slamming the franchise for lying to the fans, Whitlock also said that he has lost interest in the league and would never watch it again. He also said that apart from the fact that the season has been a big disappointment, WNBA players aren’t likeable.

Whitlock said, “I don’t think I’ll ever be returning to the WNBA, certainly not the way that I was before this season with Caitlin Clark. I’ve been disappointed. This season has been a disappointment. No guarantee that next season won’t be a disappointment or a work stoppage.”

The 58-year-old continued, “And now that I’ve met the WNBA players, I don’t like them. They’re unlikable. I don’t care if they have any success. I like a handful of the Indiana Fever players. That’s it. But I’ve lost interest in that. I’m done. I’m out. No reason to watch the rest of this season. No real reason to return next season.”

Whitlock’s comments come from a place of disappointment considering the Fever had kept fans hooked by giving them vague updates. While a few reports suggesting that Clark might not return this season started floating on the internet, the Fever still didn’t provide any clear picture about their star player’s update. In fact, head coach Stephanie White also revealed that she had returned to the floor and started participating in practice sessions. It gave fans hope and just when they thought Clark was getting closer to playing again, the league broke their hearts.

The Fever have two games remaining in their regular season. Currently in the seventh spot in standings, Indiana is yet to officially qualify for the playoffs.
