Jannik Sinner will play his first match on grass this season.
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will kick off his preparation for the Wimbledon with an ATP Terra Wortmann Open 2025 where he is the top-seeded player. The Italian ace will take on Yannick Hanfmann in the opening round of the tournament. It will be the first match for Sinner since a heartbreaking loss in the 2025 Roland Garros final.
Jannik Sinner starts preparation for the third Grand Slam tournament of the year and his first assignment will be the ATP Terra Wortmann Open. The world No. 1 hasn’t recovered from the loss in the French Open final to Carlos Alcaraz where he had three championship points. Earlier, he won the Australian Open this year. Sinner has been terrific this season with a 18-2 record and both defeats came against Alcaraz.
Jannik Sinner will play his first match on grass this year but he has a great experience of playing on this surface. The Italian ace has won the title in Halle last year and he will enter the competition as the defending champions. With Terra Wortmann Open, Sinner would take a warm-up for the Wimbledon which is missing from his grand slam cabinet.
Jannik Sinner passes Novak Djokovic as the man with the 4th longest first stint as world #1 in the history of the ATP singles rankings.

Yannick Hanfmann came through the qualifying round where he beat Nishioka and Jarry in straight sets. The German ace has struggled in ongoing season with a 15-14 record but went 4-1 on grass. He got eliminated six times in his last eight ATP first-round matches and this time, he faces the world No. 1 and the three-time major champion. Hanfmann has a 2-14 record against the top-10 players. The German ace will get the support of home crowd but he has a tough task in the opening round.
Jannik Sinner have met Yannick Hanfmann earlier and both have locked horns in two matches. Interestingly, their both matchups came in the Grand Slams. Jannic Sinner won both matches comfortably and dropped just one set. This is the third time both players will meet in the opening round of the competition.

Sinner has beat Hanfmann last year on grass during the opening round of the Wimbledon. The Italian ace is in its prime form and reached into the finals in each of the last three Grand Slam event, including two titles. Hanfmann’s game is grass-adaptable and he cannot counter Sinner’s backhand game and baseline power. It will be the first grass-court game for Sinner this season but he is a different player. The Italian ace should wrap up this game in straight sets.
Prediction: Jannik Sinner in straight sets.
With Sinner at 1/4 and Hanfmann at 20/10, the numbers back the world No. 1 due to his in-season form. Sinner the big advantage with backhand precision, mental toughness and serve placement.
