Friday night at Flushing Meadows, Jannik Sinner defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to earn his 300th career win and seal a blockbuster US Open 2025 final against Carlos Alcaraz. At just 24 years and 22 days old, the Italian became the youngest man in the Open Era to reach five consecutive Grand Slam finals, joining tennis legends Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic in a feat reserved for the game’s greatest. On Sunday, the world’s top two players will battle for the last major crown of the season but also for the No. 1 ATP ranking, with Sinner holding the spot for 65 weeks running.

Sinner Joins Federer, Nadal, Djokovic in Historic Club

With his run to the US Open final, Sinner has etched his name alongside Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal as only the fourth man in the Open Era to reach five straight Slam finals. This also includes being the fourth to reach all Grand Slam finals in a single season. Federer did it twice (10 straight from 2005 to 2007 and 8 from 2008 to 2010), Djokovic managed the streaks of 6 times in 2015-16 and 5 times in 2020-21, while Nadal completed his 5 times in 2011-12. Now, it is Sinner’s turn to carry the mantle forward.

Since losing to Alexander Zverev in the 2023 US Open fourth round, he has won 27 straight Grand Slam matches on hard courts. His only blemish this season was a heartbreaking defeat to Alcaraz in the Roland Garros final, where he held three championship points. Reflecting on his streak, Sinner said, “It’s amazing. I think five straight Grand Slam finals, it’s something great; the consistency and putting myself there, in the later stages of the biggest tournaments we have, is amazing.”

If Sinner triumphs on Sunday, he will tie Alcaraz with five career majors and become the first defending men’s champion at the US Open since Federer’s five-year reign from 2004 to 2008. He is also poised to break Federer’s age mark, becoming the youngest to play finals at all four Slams in a single season.

Alcaraz and Sinner’s Rivalry Reaches New Heights

For the first time in the Open Era, two players, Sinner and Alcaraz, will play three Grand Slam finals in the same season.
